The English edition of Wikipedia Encyclopedia contains around 3 million articles as of now and if someone were to print the entire Wikipedia encyclopedia into a book, the size of that book would roughly be equivalent to 952 volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Not sure if anyone is willing to go that far but a student in UK has actually converted 0.01% of the Wikipedia encyclopedia into a printed book. See some pictures below:

This Wikipedia book has some 5,000 pages and it’s a compilation of 400+ featured articles all picked from Wikipedia. And, as you can easily make out from the photographs, the book is huge - it’s about 1ft 7in. high or just as tall as a 30" widescreen monitor.

The more interesting part is that, Rob Matthews, who came up with this idea of printing Wikipedia, also has plans to sell this book according to Telegraph.

[h=1]Wikipedia:Database download[/h]Wikipedia offers free copies of all available content to interested users. These databases can be used for mirroring, personal use, informal backups, offline use or database queries (such as for Wikipedia:Maintenance). All text content is multi-licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License (CC-BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). Images and other files are available under different terms, as detailed on their description pages. For our advice about complying with these licenses, see Wikipedia:Copyrights.

pages-articles.xml.bz2 – Current revisions only, no talk or user pages. (This is probably the one you want. The size of the 4 April 2013 dump is approximately 9.06 GB compressed, 42 GB uncompressed).

Kiwix is perfect to read Wikipedia offline. In order to read and enjoy the Wikipedia articles offline, you will need:

    1. Kiwix (the software)
    2. The ZIM file with the content of the specific linguistic Wikipedia the user want (for example in English).
    3. Optionally, the index allowing fulltext searches.
[h=2]Download[/h] To obtain Wikipedia offline on your computer, you can download the components separately or download a package including all of them:

    • Non-indexed ZIM files contain only a ZIM file you may want to index later if you need to do fulltext searches.
    • Portable pre-indexed ZIM files contain the Kiwix software with a pre-indexed ZIM file. Everything is compressed in a ZIP file. For now, these packages work only with Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux. In these packages, the ZIM files may be split into several two gigabytes parts to be compatible with FAT32 file-systems.
    • The Portable pre-indexed ZIM is always a little bit bigger than the Non-indexed ZIM file, but if you have enough bandwidth, we recommend to download it. It's the easiest way to have a directly usable Wikipedia offline and this package will be really easy to copy to many different places.

There are two ways to download each file:

    • Bittorent (recommended) which downloads the file with a torrent software. Using Bittorrent you save our bandwidth and you get the certainty that your file won't get corrupted during the download process.
    • Direct download which downloads the file directly with your browser. If you already have Kiwix installed on your computer, we recommend to download this ZIM file from the internal Kiwix library.
