worked in a place where one of the customers left an item that I would value to be over $200 maybe as high as $500.
The owner of the place found it and showed it to me after we closed.
He said "I'm keeping this, it's just what I wanted. Don't tell anyone you saw it."
I couldn't believe I was hearing that. Of course the customer is going to come back to look for it the next day.
Sure enough, the customer comes back and asked me if I had seen the item.
I said no
Guess I thought I'd be fired if I said the owner had it.
The owner could easily buy this sh1t himself so it makes no sense on any level I can think of.
I think I should have told the customer about his item and quit at that point.
The taking of the customers item was a sign that I was working in a really sh1tty place and I should have known that I wouldn't keep working there much longer.
No business ever kept anything I accidently left there in my whole life.
Today whenever I hear someone say "do unto others what you would have them do unto you", the guilty keeps coming down on me like an avalanche. I facked up by not standing up for that customer.
Care to share with us your experiences?
