    Sijafanya search yeyote kuona kama hiki ninachokitaka kipo tayari kwenye JF kwa hiyo msinizodoe.

    Mimi ni mgonjwa wa kisukari (IDDM -- Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus or Type I), na kulingana na takwimu za Wizara ya Afya na pia WHO, kuna ongezeko kubwa sana la watu wanaopata kisukari katika nchi za Africa pamoja na Asia hasa India.

    Kisukari ni hali (condition), sipendi kuutaja kama 'ugonjwa', ambayo ni more or less permanent. Mimi nachoma insulin kwa zaidi ya miaka 10 na daktari wangu amenihakikishia kuwa nitaendelea for very long time to come provided I am still alive! Pamoja na dawa tuzipatazo sisi wagonjwa, tiba pia inahusisha lishe, mazoezi, na sapoti ya jamii inayotuzunguka.

    Wazo:

    Napendekeza kuanzishwa kwa 'sticky post' or something like that; hii ikiwa mahsusi kwa ajili ya kupeana mbinu, tiba mbadala, elimu, ushauri, teknolojia mpya (mf. dawa, pumps, glucometers, etc.), lishe (diet), n.k. zinazohusiana na ugonjwa wa Kisukari (both Type I & II na hata Insipidus).

    Nakaribisha mawazo na maoni.

    PS: Wao la kuhudhuria kliniki nalifahamu ila kwa hali ya nchi yetu TZA bado iko at very basic level. Pia upungufu wa wataalamu (nutritionists, diabetic educators, etc.) na hosp zinazotoa huduma hii ni chache.

    Dietary Guidelines

    These are general dietary guidelines that diabetes sufferers can follow to help keep their blood sugar under control;

    • Avoid being overweight. Make sure you eat a balanced, healthy diet based on suitable foods. If you do need to lose weight, see your doctor or nutritionist to formulate a diet tailored to your needs,

    • Eat regular meals. Exactly how many and how often can usually be decided by what is convenient, this means avoid the three 'heavy' meals we normally take

    • Eat more starchy, high-fibre carbohydrates, such as whole-wheat bread, beans, peas and lentils. All of the foods cause only a gradual rise in blood sugar because the fibre content slows down the release of glucose. B vitamin, Magnesium and trace elements are provided by whole grains,

    • Cut down on sugary sweetened soft drinks, cakes, sweets, and chocolates, especially between meals. The sugar is absorbed quickly and therefore causes blood glucose levels to rise more rapidly,

    • Eat at least five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables for soluble fibre, vitamins and minerals they provide. Fruit makes an ideal snack or pudding, but beware of eating very sweet fruits such as grapes or mangoes in large amounts because of their effect on your blood sugar levels. If you do eat tinned fruit, choose those canned in natural juice rather than syrup. Dried fruits such as date are concentrated form of sugar and so should be consumed in small quantities.

    • Cut down on fats which aggravates the diabetic's increased risk of coronary heart diseases.

    • Limit salts and salty foods, because of the diabetics increased susceptibility to high blood pressure. Be aware of hidden salt in many tinned, smoked and processed food.

    • Keep alcohol consumption at moderate levels, remembering that low-sugar, diet beers and lagers tends to have a high alcoholic content.

    • Although "artificial" sweeteners may be useful, special diabetic products are usually unnecessary, much more expensive and often have high fat content.

    • Drink lots of water or sugar free drinks!
