OVERVIEW AND JOB PURPOSE
Jamii Media Company Limited is an online media company that hosts and runs JamiiForums.com, the most popular website in East and Central Africa. Parallel with this site, Jamii Media also runs online news portal (FikraPevu.com) and manages a number of the most subscribed fans’ pages of the popular social media outlets e.g Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Jamii Media has been nurturing a more informed, engaged and entertained global community of Swahili users. This has been archived by providing online platforms where people dare to talk openly. Each day, users of JamiiForums.com share news, events, and stories from politics, economics, to social life. As a champion of new media, the company is continuously striving to provide optimal utility to online consumers particularly swahili users.
In the new move the company is planning to begin regular production of specialized contents that will be dedicated in the four socio-economic sectors namely Education, Health, Water and Agriculture. The scope of coverage for these contents will go down as far as to a village from a regional level. Apart from informing, the specialized contents will aim at revealing the bottlenecks of a particular sector at the regional level and hence trigger for accountability from responsible organs.
On the aforesaid, Jamii Media is looking to recruit four (4) candidates whose specializations are in the target sectors (Water, Education, Health and Agriculture) to become Specialized Content Developers (SCDs).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The major responsibility of the SCDs will be to create Sector Specific and regional focused content that will informative and engaging to the online community. The created content will serve to appreciate good initiatives taking place at the grassroots, up raise issues on what is not going well, trigger public reactions and call for accountability.
In performing their duties, the SCDs are expected to apply some techniques of research and investigative journalism in order to come-up with factual stories. The SCDs will develop and implement a plan for disseminating the reports and collecting public reactions after the release. Moreover, they will also liaise with public offices implicated in their reports to to make follow-ups on the plan for cations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The applicants must have a good knowledge (Degree level and above) with hands-on experience of the target sectors (Water, Health, Education and Agriculture). Further, the applicants need to have excellent command over written Swahili. They should be able to create web content based on analytical sector reports, survey reports and present them in a lucid, simple, easy to understand language.
The ideal candidates must posses a set of interpersonal skills, self discipline with the ability to work under little or no supervision but still deliver content on the schedule.
The successful applicants will attend class and onjob trainings in Basic Journalism and New Media skills to enable them to work efficiently and diligently in this emerging field
MODE OF APPLICATION
Potential candidates who think that they posses the minimum required criteria for the posts should apply by doing the followings:
i. Select one sector of your specialization
ii. Analyze the sector bottlenecks at the region of your choice
iii. Develop simple, easy-to-understand, user friendly Swahili content from the above analysis and propose what should be done to resolve the bottlenecks
