Aim-listed uranium exploration company Uranium Resources has started its 2011 drilling programme at its flagship Mtonya project, in southern Tanzania.

The discovery-focused drilling pro-gramme was designed after extensive analysis of the results from the 2010 campaign and will cover areas with known surface mineralisation and also test areas with strong blind mineralisation potential.

Last year, the exploration company raised £800 000 to undertake a two-phase drilling programme at the prospect.

The Mtonya programme will comprise 21 holes for a total of 6 850 m ranging in depth between 300 m and 350 m and covering an area 2 km by 4 km. This programme will target the most positive strata for roll-front minerali-sation identified during the 2010 drilling.

Further, the company aims to intercept the mineralised roll-front and determine the extent and tenor of uraniferous mineralisation.
