Why is there almost no tribalism during Tanzanian elections?

28 October 2010 Last updated at 10:02 GMT
Many African countries have experienced violence and intimidation during elections often caused by tribalism.

Tanzania which is heading towards one of its most anticipated general elections in many years this Sunday, is a different case

Tribalism is almost non-existent.

How has a country of more than 100 tribes succeeded in a region where many of its neighbours, including Rwanda, Kenya and Somalia, have experienced numerous cases of tribal-tension?

Zuhura Yunus reports.

Kudos Tanzania, hili suala ni muhimu sana, KUANGAMIZA UKABILA SI JAMBO DOGO. NCHI NYINGI ZINAHANGAIKA JINSI YA KUWAWEKA WATU WAO PAMOJA BILA KUFIKIRIA KABILA LAKE.

KAZI KUBWA TULIYO NAYO NI JINSI GANI HII HALI YA KUISHI PAMOJA BILA KUBAGUANA KWA MISINGI YA KIKABILA IENEE KATIKA ENEO LA AFRIKA MASHARIKI NA AFRIKA KWA UJUMLA.

HEKO WATANZANIA.

Tunasifiwa kwa A tunafanya juhudi kubwa kuibomoa hiyo A.

You have a point Bongolander. We should not allow such divisive tendencies to flourish in Tanzania. We need to fight harder to eliminate such elements. United we shall win.

Nyerere alijenga taifa.... wenzake walishikilia tu watu oamoja...

Mungu ibariki Tanzania.

Guard what you have with envy, protect the peace you inherited with everything you have. Dont allow politicians to drive the wedge between you, whether in tribal or religious differences, coz it can happen if you let it. yetu ilianza kitambo lakini ikawa institutionalized after the coup attempt in '82, mpaka wa leo tunajaribu kuimaliza hili janga lakini wapi. play your cards right fam.

But when you have people like Kikwete in power with no capacity to deliver; they resort into religious smear campaigns so as to protect their plundering of the nation. I hope my fellow Tanzaninans will be smart to see the religious division CCM is trying to root in our hearts!

Election time is here, Brother's to the south.

Important:
Everybody, go and vote. That's the only way change will come.

P.S
Just remembered something we used to do in High school. Dedz (dedication)
Here's mine to the People of Tanzania (esp. JF forumers. Usikose kupiga kura) It was sung by Usher for Obama and voters.

HAVE PEACEFUL ELECTIONS GUYS.
