Je ni jesho liko in control ?

    Tension over presidential results
    By NATION Reporter

Results trickling in show President Kibaki and ODM’s Raila Odinga in a tight race for Kenya’s top job, with returns in from more than half of the 210 constituencies.
Electoral Commission chairman Samuel Kivuitu said as at 2.30pm, Mr Odinga had 3,880,053 votes against President Kibaki’s 3,842,051.

Mr Kivuitu said they had since received more presidential results, for which tallying was still underway and updated figures would be released any minute now.

As at 6pm, the commission was yet to receive results from 19 constituencies.

The 19 include Kamukunji, Starehe, Changamwe, Kisauni, Garsen, Mandera Central, Kitui West, Kathiani, Mwala, Kibwezi, Gatundu South, Turkana North, Turkana Central, Kacheliba, Baringo Central, Kajiado North, Malaba, Ikolomani and Emuhaya constituencies.

A result released on Nation’s digital platforms at around 3pm was confirmed as erroneous. The incorrect figures had Mr Odinga at 4.5m and Mr Kibaki 4.2m, and was wrongly computed following a mix-up in constituency tallies.

Delays in the release of the presidential results has caused a panic across the country, with riots being reported in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Busia, Homabay, Migori and Kericho.

The electoral commissioners are currently holed up in a meeting following protests from the Orange Democratic Movement alleging that results from some constituencies had been doctored to favour the incumbent.

    Military ready for presidential election
    By ODHIAMBO ORLALE
Last updated: Wed, Dec 26, 2007 18:04 PM (EAT)
Military officers today held a rehearsal at Nyayo National Stadium for the presidential inauguration expected soon after tomorrow’s election.

The colourful event drew a big crowd of curious onlookers.

The Army commander, Lieutenant-General S.K. Njoroge, did not state when or where the real ceremony will be held after a winner emerges in the elections.

The commander described the rehearsals as ‘normal’, saying they have always done it on the eve of a General Election.

Said the commander: “We have two rehearsals, one for the incumbent and one for a new president, depending on the outcome of the elections.”

Government spokesman, Dr Alfred Mutua, also said arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony had been finalised, but he did not elaborate.

The front runners in the presidential race are the incumbent, President Kibaki, and his two former Cabinet ministers and ODM’s Mr Raila Odinga.

The army, the air force and the navy officers arrived at the venue from 7am.

They were watched by some of the 1,051 clerks and 308 presiding and deputy presiding officers hired by the Electoral Commission to man the polling stations in Lang’ata constituency.

The lieutenant-general was the man of the hour who, acting as the president, was driven in the ceremonial Land Rover reserved for their Commander-in-Chief, the Head of State.

After the brief lap of honour round the stadium, the army commander inspected a guard of honour and then proceeded to the presidential dais escorted by senior officers.

Hakuna update tena.

They have to feel pain, they have to mourn. Anayepingana na democracia hana haki ya kuishi he better go to heal.
