The U.S. has announced a special arrangement through which Rwanda will become a strategic ally in an effort to improve trade partnership with Africa.

And Rwanda’s enemies have egg on their face. After weeks of pedestrian talk criticizing Rwanda for abolishing presidential term limits after a historical turn out at the polls, Rwanda’s enemies are speechless.

True, the U.S.voiced its concerns about the referendum, but Rwanda reminded the international community who governs Rwanda, and how the will of Rwandans is final, in all matters.

There was a blietkrieg of media reports and interviews by self-exiled Rwandans condemning Rwanda and asking donors to withhold their aid. Now we know how many listened to such nonsense.

Now the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker who led a delegation to Kigali and met with President Kagame says the U.S.chose Rwanda as one of two destinations because over the last 20 years, the country has been a remarkable success story.

Sweeter words were never said. “REMARKABLE SUCCESS STORY”

She said, “Much of this positive progress is the result of a concerted and focused approach to economic and commercial policy making.”

And I add, good leadership, strong institutions and a vibrant, albeit young democracy.

Let’s wait and see how Rwanda’s enemies tell the world Secretary Pritzker did not utter these words.

The 2015 World Bank’s Doing Business Report ranked Rwanda number 3 in easiest countries to do business in Africa, and number 46 globally. All achieved in 21 years.

The report points out how Rwanda has reduced corporate income taxes from 30% to 15%.

Secretary Pritzker said Rwanda has a lot to offer to the US, thanks to a successful regional integration. To our detractors these have to be difficult messages to hear.

Recently Rwanda concluded several deals to import 400 Megawatts from Ethiopia and Kenya. More than $500 million has been invested by American energy firms.

Secretary Pritzker went on, “We have seen Rwanda make progress in economic growth, reducing poverty, promoting education and improving public health.”

It was not lost on Pritzker that Rwanda’s contribution to peacekeeping worldwide is among the largest. Kudos to Rwanda’s finest, the Officers, men and women of RDF. You make us proud.
