The Springfield Police Department has arrested three Texas residents on suspicion of forgery, according to a department news release.

Lawanna N. Everage, 18, of Dallas; Evelyn Haley, 30, of Arlington, Texas, and Ronald Ngure, 35, of Balch Springs, Texas, were charged with forgery by the Greene County prosecutor on Friday.

Police were called to CheddarÂ’s Restaurant, 1950 E. Primrose St., just before 1 p.m. Thursday when Everage was arrested after attempting to pass a forged American Express check, according to police.

Further investigation found that the trio had passed or attempted to pass the forged checks at several other Springfield businesses, police say.

At the time of the arrest, officers recovered forged travel checks worth an estimated $14, 200, as well as a variety of fake identification cards and materials to produce fake travel checks.

Springfield police want to remind businesses that asking for proper identification, and often more than one form or identification, is a good way to prevent being a victim of this type of crime
