Finance and Economic Affairs minister Mustafa Mkulo has said that inflation will drop to 8 per cent by the end of this month and is expected to go further down to 5 per cent by June next year.
The minister said this yesterday when tabling in Parliament the Report on the country's 2009/2010 Economic Outlook and Projections for the period between 2010/2011 and 2012/2013.
He said the government will strengthen its economic growth strategies with more efforts being directed to control inflation. He stressed that inflation control was important for community development.
At 9.4 per cent, Tanzania is currently at the top in the East African region with the highest inflation rate.
Recent statistics show that by end of March this year Rwanda had an inflation of 2.05 per cent, while Kenya had 3.7 per cent, Burundi 5.6 per cent, Uganda 5.9 per cent and Tanzania 9.4 per cent.
He said the country's income will grow by 7 per cent in 2010, 7.1 per cent in 2011, 7.4 per cent in 2012 and 7.8 per cent in 2013. He said that domestic revenue is expected to record a slight increase from 17.3 per cent in 2010/2011 to 17.4 per cent in 2011/2012.
Mkulo said that more concentration will also be put in improving the business and investment environment in the country. He said that according to the 2009 World Bank report; the costs of doing business in Tanzania are high, adding that the report ranks Tanzania at the position of 131 out of 186 countries.
He mentioned other areas the government intends to improve in order to quicken economic growth as implementation of ‘Kilimo Kwanza' to ensure food security and reduce interest rates.
"Our target is to increase investment in priority sectors including agriculture, infrastructure, industries, land and energy. More emphasis will be put on the public private partnership," the minister added.
He said that this year the government will also have as its priority , agriculture, energy, infrastructure, industry and financial sectors.
On infrastructure, the minister said that the government will put more emphasis on rehabilitation of roads and railway networks, constuct more Inland Container Depots (ICDs) in order to decongest the Dar es Salaam port while looking into ways of reducing traffic jam in the city.
He said that the government is planning to build a new port and upgrade the existing ones in order to bring about efficiency in handling internal and transit goods.
He said the government will also build capacity in electricity generation and enhance the availability and use of natural gas. The government will further continue with its rural electrification programme, he added.
On industries, the minister pledged support for industries that use local resources, adding that the government will develop special economic zones, while in the financial sector the government will establish a bank for agriculture in order to strengthen the investment bank and the women's bank. It will also implement and promote financial lease, he concluded.
Hapa sijaona jambo lolote linaloonekana tofauto na bajeti za siku za nyuma. Hotuba ina ahadi bila kuonyesha ahadi hizo zitatekelezwa vipi. Matumizi ya maneno kama "...government is planning....,""... governement pldeges support...", "....is expected...", na kadhalika yanaonyesha jinsi gani serikali isivyojua la kufanya.
In particular, ahadi hii "He said that this year the government will also have as its priority , agriculture, energy, infrastructure, industry and financial sectors." ni fuzzy sana na imekuwa inarudiwa kila mwaka tangu mwaka 1964 na Abdulrahman Babu alipotangaza Mpango wa Maendeleo ya Miaka Mitano.
Kwa jumla sikubalina na ahadi hiyo iliyosema "He said that this year the government will also have as its priority , agriculture, energy, infrastructure, industry and financial sectors." kwa sababu siyo ngeni masikioni mwa watanzania.
