Tanzania Govt sets aside 1bn/- to revive Lindi Port

The government has set aside 1bn/- which would be spent to rehabilitate Lindi Port located to enable it improve operations and income.


This was revealed by the regional commissioner Ludovick Mwananzila when addressing the ward executive council in Lindi rural district here over the weekend.

Mwananzila said the amount set aside will be used to pay the contractor who will carry out maintenance of the port infrastructure by removing the sands and installing a gate at a distance of 100m.


The regional commissioner said that rehabilitation work will start after the completion of feasibility study that is being carried out by experts.


He said the old buildings surrounding the port area will be demolished to pave the way for the construction of new ones going hand in hand with the constructions of management offices at the ports.


Mwananzila noted that some of the buildings will include the head office and the building for keeping passengers' luggage when they disembark from the ship.


He explained that the port was the main source of the region's revenue and employment for youths, hence improving the livelihood of the people.
