Tanzania has dropped six places on the global competitiveness index compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF) due to its poor infrastructure.

The forum said in its 2008/2009 Global Competitiveness Index report that the infrastructure factor is putting off many potential investors from the country.

Tanzania last ranked 97th in the 2006/2007 period and is now at the 113th position out of the 134 countries surveyed by the index compilers.

The survey has found local business leaders mostly dissatisfactory with Tanzania's road and railway networks as well as its inadequate power supplies.

Other factors that have contributed to the dropping of Tanzania on the WEF rankings included inadequately-educated or trained workforce as well as poor work ethics, limited access to financing services, corruption and restrictive labor regulations.
