    Songas power plant at Ubungo

Songas Limited has become the first power plant in Tanzania to get the International Standard Organization (ISO) certificate.
A statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday said Songas received the award after the certification body conducted a rigorous audit to ensure successful assimilation of the organization’s existing environmental, health and safety processes in accordance with ISO guidelines.
“Songas is the only power plant in Tanzania to achieve ISO certificate, this is the result of many months of hard work and dedication by the entire Songas team”, read part of the statement.
Songas Managing Director, Chris Ford said: "This is a very significant milestone; it shows the company’s determination to grow and develop the power sector in the country by raising the operational bar to international standards”.
He said through the certificate, Songas would from now on combine both environmental, health and safety into one integrated management system. He said the certification differentiated the company in a competitive market place by clearly demonstrating that it adhered to world-class management standards.
Songas Ubungo Plant Manager, Ramakrishna, said the certification was a result of team work. He said Songas always ensured that documentation of all environmental, health and safety procedures complied with the relevant standards.
“We also provide regular trainings to our employees. In order to maintain the world class standards, Songas has implemented reporting measures and will conduct yearly audits by the accredited third party organization”, he said.
