IN SUMMARY

In most countries, over half of the costs associated with software errors are borne by software users and the remainder by software developers or vendors.

Software testing firm, Tezza Solutions in partnership with IT services and solutions vendor HP, is set to hold a software testing seminar in Nairobi.

The one-day seminar, with theme “Successful Banking Systems Implementation through Test Automation & Performance Testing,” is targeted at financial institutions’ top managers drawn from Human Resource (HR) and IT among others.

During the event, scheduled for February 29, participants will be trained on various emerging trends, including the importance of training IT staff on software quality assurance and testing; how to develop specialized skills for successful software implementation; how organizations can successfully implement their software projects as well as what project managers need to know before they embark on each new software project.

Attendees will also learn how to leverage the power in HP's application life management tools such as Quality Center, Quick Test Professional, Load Runner and WebInspect for their organization’s security, performance, test automation and test management needs.

“Can you guarantee your customers that their financial data and money is secure? How safe are your systems from security violations? Can your system support what your customer wants? It’s no longer an option,” said Roland Omoresemi, chief executive of Tezza Solutions.

Omoresemi, whose firm conducts software testing in Kenya and US, added that security and performance testing of software must be part of organization’s testing activities before roll-out of any banking software.

According to industry statistics, software bugs or errors are prevalent and detrimental. A 2002 study commissioned by US Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) indicated that software errors cost the US economy an estimated $ 59.5 billion annually, or about 0.6 percent of the gross domestic product.

The study stated that although all errors cannot be removed, more than a third of these costs, or an estimated $ 22.2 billion, could be eliminated by an improved testing infrastructure that enables earlier and more effective identification and removal of software defects.
