The Commissionof the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for aposition of Senior Political Officer(Anticorruption and Public Service) in the Department for Political Affairs.


1. Post:

Job title: Senior Political Officer (Anticorruption and Public Service)
Grade: P3
Supervisor: Head of Division: Democracy, Governance, Human Rights and Elections (DGHRE)
Directorate: Department for Political Affairs
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

2. Majorduties and responsibilities:
The Senior PoliticalOfficer, Anticorruption and Public service shall perform the following tasks:


  • Assist in planning, preparing and implementing programme activities relating to Anticorruption and Public service as well as preparing budgets;
  • Drafting of concept notes and background documents;
  • Organise seminars, workshops and other related activities in the field of Anticorruption and Public Service with various stakeholders;
  • Draft speeches, talking points, reports of activities and specific missions;
  • Provide advice on Anticorruption and Public Service issues, including input into official communications, statements and other documents;
  • Liaise with the AU Consultative Anticorruption Body as well as to ensure the planning and implementation of the CAMPS activities and Anticorruption and Public Service issues;
  • Assist in mainstreaming Anticorruption and Public Service in the programs of the African Union;
  • Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate working relations with AU Organs and partners of African Union on issues relating to Anticorruption and Public Service;
  • Perform anyother relevant tasks assigned by supervisor

4. Qualifications and Experience Required
Candidates must have a minimum Masters University Degreein Law, Political Science, International Relations or other related disciplines.

. Professional experience required:
Candidates must have at least 7 years of relevant working experience in the area of Human Rights including experience in capacity building, training, technicalcooperation activities, planning and budgeting.

6. Other relevant skills

  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to work in a team and maintain team spirit.
  • Ability to work under pressure, and to act with discretion in a politically sensitive environment and to establish good working relationship both with Government authorities and colleagues
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
  • Good communication and negotiating skills;
  • Good planning and organizational skills.

7. Language requirement

Proficiencyin one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or severalother working language(s) would be an added value

8. Age requirement:
Candidates mustpreferably be between 30and 45 years old.

9. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on afixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelvemonths will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contractwill be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

11. Remuneration:
Indicative basic salary ofUS$33,619.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment(46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
