Saudi Arabia has asked florists and gift shops to remove all red items until after Valentine's Day, calling the celebration of such a holiday a sin, local media reported Monday.

"As Muslims we shouldn't celebrate a non-Muslim celebration, especially this one that encourages immoral relations between unmarried men and women, " Sheikh Khaled Al-Dossari, a scholar in Islamic studies, told the Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper.

Every year, officials with the conservative Muslim kingdom's Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice clamp down on shops a few days before February 14, instructing them to remove red roses, red wrapping paper, gift boxes and teddy bears. On the eve of the holiday, they raid stores and seize symbols of love.

Mkuu, valentine na zile nguo zao za kininja, wapi na wapi. Maana unaweza kutoa rose kwa mke wa mtu.

If they can seize love thoughts in people's mind that will be remarkable but mere 'robbing' love symbols shops wont help a thing! Wanaonekana wameshindwa kazi hao, people need to be converted willingly, not forcefully. They should prevail in presence of temptations not in absence!

Valentine's Day may be offensive to those maniacs. The Prophet never wanted anyone to have some fun in life...only subservience and if you murder people you get 72 Virgins as payback. What a culture!!

who said valentine is for romantic issues..... what a pity... this show how short minded these ppl are.... the man him self "VALENTINE" preached and practiced differently... to him valentine day is the day to show love and care for each others just the way of telling others that they are still part of u regardless of race, religion an so on these other persons are alike of..... mom ,dad, bro, sis, aunt, neighbor, buddy etc..... just to make sure world is becoming a better place to live, it is as simple as that... but now days ppl have interpret the idea wrongly... just to fulfill their sexual desire... those Saudi.... whatever... they are simply short minded if they really banned the day.

Nadhani hata Bongo tunahitaji kuipiga marufuku sikukuu hii. Imegeuzwa siku ya uasherati, ngono, maambukizi ya virusi, ufirauni na kila baya la kumchukiza Mungu. Tuache mkumbo, haitufai hata kidogo.
