Victoire Ingabire: Finally nailed
Barely two days after the Rwanda government arrested two senior military
officers, today morning opposition leader, Victoire Ingabire, head of the United Democratic Forces (FDU) who was under police investigations has also been arrested.

A police source has just told 256news.com Ingabire is detained at Kicukiro Police station in Kigali.

Last month, Rwanda police stopped Mrs Ingabire from leaving the country. Summons were slapped on her and her movements have since been restricted.

The government accuses Ingabire of denying the 1994 genocide in which
over a million people, mainly minority Tutsis, were killed.

Ingabire has also not been allowed to register her party because of the
police investigation.

She has accused Rwanda authorities of blocking the party's
registration in order to lock her out of running in presidential
elections set for August.

According to a judiciary source who spoke to 256news.com on condition
of anonymity, Ingabire is charged with five serious counts including:

”Collaboration with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of
Rwanda (FDLR) rebels, known for their heinous activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, crimes detrimental to the security of the State and evidence that she is busy creating an irregular armed force parallel to the regular national forces to come and destabilize the country.”

She is also charged with divisive tendencies due to her left
and right public statements in the country, which are tainted with a
divisive nature to pit people against each other. And finally, that
she is to be prosecuted for throwing about statements of a different ideology
of genocide, commonly referred to as the double-genocide theory.

President Paul Kagame (pictured), who has been in power since the end of the
genocide, has been accused of muzzling the opposition and is widely
expected to seek and secure re-election in August.
