Rumor: iPhone 7 Plus to come in 256GB storage option and feature a larger 3,100mAh battery

If the latest iPhone 7 Plus rumors are to be believed, Apple plans on offering the handset with a staggering 256GB storage option and with a gigantic 3,100mAh battery.
The report does not mention whether Apple continues to offer 16GB space as the base storage on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which is likely more important than the company offering a 256GB storage variant of the handset.
It remains to be seen if the base model of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come with 16GB storage space. Apple stuck with 16GB storage option for its base model for the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6s despite receiving widespread criticism.
Apple has maintained that cloud storage services are making up for the lack of gobbles of internal storage on devices, and that “most price-conscious customers are able to live in an environment where they don’t need gobs of local storage because these services are lightening the load.”
If Apple does end up going with a 3,100mAh battery inside the iPhone 7 Plus, it would lead to a healthy 12.7 percent jump in battery capacity. This should lead to a noticeable improvement in battery life on the iPhone 7 Plus, though a more power hungry and higher resolution display could easily offset any battery life gains. Surprisingly, the report claims that despite coming with a 3,100mAh battery, the iPhone 7 Plus will be as thin as the iPhone 6s Plus, which sounds dubious, though might just turn out to be possible due to technological improvements.
Lastly, the report also claims that both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will retain the same 4.7-inch screen size and 5.5-inch screen sizes, respectively, as their predecessors.
Apple was among the first OEMs to offer a smartphone with 128GB storage option, so if there is any company that can offer a 256GB storage option, it has to be Apple. However, given how few users would actually go for the 256GB variant, it does seem unlikely to me that Apple will go through and launch a 256GB storage option for the iPhone 7.
Here’s what we know about the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus so far:
Apple is widely expected to launch iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September, but we’ve already heard several rumors about the new iPhones so far such as:

- iPhone 7 could be as thin as the iPod touch, which is only 6.1mm thick, compared to the iPhone 6s which is 6.9mm thick.
- Apple may also remove the 3.5mm port in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and opt for an all-in-one Lightning connector.
- The next iPhones will be powered by a faster A10 chip manufactured by TSMC and Intel’s LTE chips rather than a chip from Qualcomm.
- iPhone 7 may also feature a water and dustproof design, and a new non-metal chassis with antenna concealing technology.
- iPhone 7 Plus could also come with 3GB RAM.
