The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) is the sole Institution with legal mandate to administer
examinations to candidates who follow the syllabi issued by MoEVT. Among the examinations administered by
NECTA is the Form 4 Examinations which lead to the award of Certificate of Secondary Education.
The results of the Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (CSEE) of October, 2011 were released by
NECTA on 8th February, 2012. Examination results generate a lot of data that need processing in order to meet
various purposes, including selection of form 4 graduates who qualify to join form 5, teachnical colleges and water
institutes. This booklet is an effort made by the office of the Commissioner for Education through its Secondary
Education wing to process, analyse and discuss some of the data given by NECTA. The data analysis covers all
candidates (school and private) of Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. However, detailed analysis provided in this
booklet is related to Tanzania Mainland. Some CSEE result parameters of previous years are included for
comparison purposes. The selection data and its analysis are also included in this booklet.
