Researchers on hiv/AIDS have found there is an increase in resistant HIV strains in africa. Reporting in the 19th international AIDS conference in washington, there is 1-7.3percent rise in resistant strains in East africa as compared to 1-3.7 percent in southern africa. This rise has been associated with a START-STOP use of ARVs. In Lancet it has been reported that 26percent of HIV patients have resistant strains in east africa as compared to 14percent in southern africa.
