Hajj 2010
Yesterday marked the start of the Hajj, the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Press Agency said that a record number of Muslims were expected to make the Hajj this year - over 3.4 million anticipated over the five days of the pilgrimage. One of the pillars of Islamic faith, the Hajj must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by any Muslim who has the ability to do so. Pilgrims perform a series of rituals including walking around the Kaaba, standing vigil on Mount Arafat and a ritual Stoning of the Devil. At the end of the Hajj, on November 16th, the three day festival of Eid al-Adha begins around the world. (34 photos total)

The Gazi Husrev-Beg Mosque, often referred to as the Beg's Mosque for short, is a mosque in the city of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in the Baščaršija neighborhood in the Stari Grad municipality.
The mosque was built in 1531 by Gazi Husrev-beg, the provincial governor of Bosnia and a man widely considered Sarajevo's greatest donor who built most of Sarajevo's old city at this time.
The Beg's Mosque was built by a Persian architect, who would later go on to build the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne for the Sultan Selim I. Out of all the Ottoman balkan provinces, Bosnia's population was the quickest to convert to Islam. Due to this, during the height of the Ottoman Empire, many of the most famous examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans were built in Bosnia, including Mosques, bridges, libraries, bathhouses, etc. etc. The Gazi Husrev-Beg mosque is a vital part of this period of prosperity and cultural growth.

Teh Mustafa Pasha Mosque in Skopje:
A beautiful mosque under the Skopje fortress. The temple was built in 1492 by Mustafa Pasha, whose name in inscribed on a plaque above the gate. Artichitecurally, the temple is a cubical structure capped with a large cupola, 16m in diameter. The impression is complemented by the porch, which is supported by four marble pillars. The 47m high minraret and the mosque are built with cut marble. The interior is decorated with floral motifs.
(Within the complex there was a medresa (a religios school) and an imaret (canteen). Within the complex today there are the Turbe of Mustafa Pasha (right next to the mosque), and a sarcofagus, believed to mark the grave of Uma, one of Mustafa PAsha's daughters.

A pretty Minaret in Moorish style, total height in excess of 60 meters, it's in southern Moravia in large Lednice Park, which is the Unesco heritage. It was built in 1797-1802 and I've read it is largest work in the moorish style in the non-Islamic countries, it is used as observation tower.
