    Babu Kijana & Co.

This is a different perspective of how you view Kagame and Rwanda. I think the author of the magazine has tried to give a very balance view on how is a unique country and a unique situation vis a vis the history and future of the country. the magazine is a three part series in the east african newspaper. for those who want to read the first part you can go to the archives and retrieve last weeks edition. Read On.....

Babukijana huko Congo misituni bado na nyie mnaua na kuiba mali za Congolese, lakini naona Kabila kawashtukia kaamua kujiunga na kagame kuwatoa huko kwenye mashimo maana propaganda zenu hata congolese wamewashtukia, mbaya zaidi hata Sarkozy juzi tuu alikuwa Kigali kuongea na kagame na ameanza kuwa hunt down all over Europe

......When the RPF decided that, given that theirs is a tiny country anyway, they would not rebuild a copper-based phone system but go cellular, they went to South Africa and eventually pitched camp at the MTN headquarters (them of World Cup fame).

The South Africans thought the Rwandese were joking.

The fellows did not even have a country to speak of, following the genocide, and no African country south of the Sahara had a mobile phone service to speak of.

The Rwanda government then offered MTN a deal it could not refuse. Come to Rwanda as a partner with Tristar.

    flashad
Don't put in any money if you don't wish to, just bring in your technology and expertise. If the mobile phone business succeeds, Tristar will sell you a stake.

If it fails, Tristar pays you your costs, and you hightail it back to South Africa.

The cellular service was a runaway success, and Tristar made a killing selling a stake to MTN South Africa.

Then the latter expanded, with Tristar as a partner, into Uganda.

About 10 years later, Tristar sold its stake in MTN Uganda, laughing all the way to the bank.

Without Tristar, MTN would have taken years to venture out of South Africa.

Today, Tristar is thought to be the largest real estate developer in East Africa.

Their most lucrative single business, however, was an audacious gamble.

A competitiveness guru in the US, who is a friend of Kagame, and some forward looking friends thought to start a biotech firm, but had difficulty raising the venture capital for it.

When the guru mentioned the project to Kagame. Kagame was hooked.

He called in Tristar, and asked them to invest $40 million.

Tristar baulked, and all but told Kagame to go and jump in Lake Kivu.

After a protracted tug of war, he squeezed about $20 milion out of them.

To cut a long story short, Tristar's stake in the biotech firm is today worth $20 billion.

It also invested in a bio-diesel consortium comprising the California-based Eco-Fuel Global, and the UK's Eco Positive.
By 2014, it is estimated that Tristar's interests in these businesses could be worth over $40 billion.

By then, some optimistic RPF economists speculate, the party's local and international assets could be equal to or larger than Rwanda's gross domestic product - and also make the RPF one of the richest parties in the world.

That is why, realistically, it will be difficult for any opposition to unseat the RPF at elections any day soon.

With this war chest, and a little vote pinching, it is unbeatable.

Kama hii ni promo basi ni promo ya kueleweka. Makala hiyo imeangalia pande mbili za shilingi. Imeeleza matatizo na mafanikio. Alikofanikiwa na alikochemsha.

A new global report on internet connectivity has put Rwanda among the top three African countries with the fastest internet broadband connectivity and downloading speeds, ranking the country ahead of more developed African economies such as South Africa and Egypt.
The global study, done by Ookla, a world leader in calculating broadband connection speed and web-based network diagnostic applications, was conducted in 180 countries, ranking Rwanda 87th worldwide and 3rd in Africa.
The report shows that Rwanda boasts of high download and upload speeds while its neighbours Kenya and Tanzania are ranked at 103 and 105 respectively.
The report released by the US-based firm on July 17, is based on the study compiled using over one billion results collected from Speedtest.net and Pingtest.net. For downloading speeds, Rwanda has 2.53MB/second.
South Korea emerged the leading nation with the fastest broadband with downloads and uploads speed standing at 32.27 Mbps. Rwanda internet speed supersedes that of an average African nation download speed of 1.6 Mbps.
The report also indicates that the slowest speeds in the world are found in Zambia, at an average 0.26 Mbps.
In terms of uploads speeds Rwanda is ranked at 36, with a speed of 2.03MB/second, putting it alongside China, France and Finland, some of the world's leading ICT countries.
Rwanda also beats Uganda in terms of uploads while its other neighbours Kenya and Tanzania are trailing behind.
The report also showed that internet users in Rwanda take less time uploading content on line than South Africans, a country which hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The Rwandan Government has invested heavily in ICT and plans are underway to make the country an ICT hub.

Where is source of this report please..

Nothing strange with its miniature size and population, by the way Rw gets its Internet through 2 Fiber Optic cables, 1 from Tz and 1 from Ke... where else???

Check these facts first before comparing Apples and Bananas

1: A fiber optic cable from Dar to KG can wraparound the entire Rw 5 times.

2: Rw is slightly bigger than Gauteng province in RSA (Gauteng is the smallest of them all 9 provinces of RSA!!!).

3: However, Gauteng has a larger population than Rw.

4: 2.8% of Rwandan population of est 10.3M has Internet connection

5: 10.8% of RSA population of est 42.3M has Internet connection
