Ocampo aomba kupeleleza ghasia Kenya ​

Mwendesha mashtaka mkuu wa mahakama ya kimataifa, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, anasema kuwa amewaomba majaji wa mahakama hiyo ruhusa ya kuanzisha upelelezi kuhusu ghasia za mwaka jana nchini Kenya baada ya uchaguzi mkuu.

Takriban watu elfu moja waliuawa katika ghasia hizo ziliozuka baada ya Rais Mwai Kibaki kutangazwa kuwa mshindi wa Uchaguzi mnamo Desemba mwaka 2007.

Upinzani ulidai kura ziliibiwa katika Uchaguzi huo.

Akizungumza na BBC Bw Ocampo amesema kuna sababu za kimsingi kuamini kwamba raia walitendewa maovu na vitendo vilivyokiuka haki za binadamu.

Kwa hiyo ikiwa majaji hao watalikubali ombi lake atakwenda Kenya kukusanya ushahidi kwa kuwasaili watuhumiwa na pia mashahidi na hapo ndipo wataamua kama kunastahili kufungua kesi ama la.

Ocampo alifafanua kuwa hawajibiki kutekeleza maelezo kuhusu orodha ya majina ya watuhumiwa ambayo ilikuwemo ndani ya bahasha aliyokabidhiwa mapema mwaka huu akisema hayo ni maoni ya wajumbe wa tume iliyochunguza mauaji hayo.

Yeye inampasa atoe uamuzi wake mwenyewe.

Waki envelope names could be out in a fortnight, says Mutula​

Kenyans may know the contents of the Justice Phillip Waki's envelope in the next 14 days.

Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo said Kenya was entering into "a landmark period" with the ICC Chief prosecutor's take up of the Kenyan situation.

Moreno Ocampo is expected in the country in December.

Mr Mutula spoke as the German Government expressed optimism Kenya will co-operate when the names are made public and hand over the suspects with the greatest responsibility to the ICC.

German ambassador to Kenya Margit Hellwig-Boette said she was confident the Government would cooperate with the ICC.

Strong case

Last week, Moreno Ocampo said he has a strong case against a number of people for crimes committed during post-poll violence. Mutula said Moreno Ocampo had assured the world Kenya would be made an example on the prosecution of cases.

"When Ocampo starts his work, we will know the contents of the envelope," said Mutula as he opened an international Justice Radio Workshop on the role of journalists in restoring lasting peace through proper reporting.
