I'm using this phone and would like to inform other colleagues that there's an important update needed for fixing several bugs...

Make sure you update your phone ASAP!

The latest firmware update is 11.0.021.

Those people experiencing difficulty while getting it Over The Air (OTA) can now opt for the Nokia Software Updater.

The latest firmware update brings with it many changes. Here is a brief gist of what the firmware update has to offer.

It features USB detection error fix and also solves the problem of the PC not detecting the N97 or USB charging connection not being detected. It possesses widgets and has home screen online/ offline widget crash fix. There is a fix for "Alphabetical and Number input are mixed in facebook until end key is pressed." There is a Widget User Interface improvement as well. Where once there was a problem of Home Screen background visible on soft-key area, now a new facebook widget solves that problem.

There are various browser fixes to improve widgets stability and MfE related fixes.

There is a partial fix for messaging/ calendar entry lost and a mail for exchange calendar entry synchronization error fix. There are UI transition error fixes and slow touch UI response. Another problem that is addressed is the image of the device lock appears half of the screen when transitioning the UI. There are photos thumbnail performance and stability improvements.

The firmware update solves the problem of deteriorating device performance when there is lots of content in the phone especially photos. There is a partial fix for the no display backlight illumination when unlocking lock-key. There is a new version of Accueweather to improve the "Connection error" situation.

There is a special firmware fix for Malaysia where the device was prone to resetting when browsing with high speed packet access. The problem of "Browser soft key UI doesn't work after putting Chinese character with QWERTY keyboard" is also solved.

Additionally, there are various Java fixes and Operator fixes. The Ovi store client is now embedded in the core image.

To update your N97 follow the following steps:

1. Select Applications - SW update.

3. To activate the automatic checking, select Auto-check for updates.
   
   
   
   
   
4. To select which access point is used to check for software updates, select Default access point.

To download and install the selected updates, Select Options > Start update

Update using your PC

You can also update your device software using your PC. To update the device software, you need the Nokia Software Updater application and a compatible PC with Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or Vista operating system, broadband internet access, and a compatible data cable to connect your device to the PC.

1. Download the latest version of Nokia Software Updater from Nokia website to your PC.
2. Connect you mobile device to your PC with a compatible USB data cable.
3. Use the Nokia PC Suite or Ovi Suite to back up the data in your device.
4. Install Nokia Software Updater.
5. Follow the instructions to update the software.
6. Restore your data files from the PC to your device.

Kwa mara ya kwanza naona Nokia wamechemsha kwenye hii handset. Ina review mbaya sijapata kuona kwenye N series! I'd rather stay with 96 or 95!!
