Hello Colleagues,

Please be aware that the Nigerian spammers have developed a new approach, which is hurting may people these days. The only way to defeat this approach is simply for all of us to be informed about their tricks.

It begins with someone sending you an e-mail that claims to have been sent by your email service administrator, to inform you that they are migrating all client e-mails to another server. The email then requests you to send your user-name and password for that purpose.

Once you have sent the information, the impostor quickly changes your password, so can no longer access your account, and then sends out emails such as the one hereunder to everyone in your addressbook. As you can see from the message below, there may be subsequent financial implications for you if any kind-hearted friend actually carries out the request to assist you. And in the meantime, you lose your archive, addressbook, and incoming correspondence.

So be careful and NEVER send your user-name/password to anyone by email. If you must share your details, then use either encryption or SMS. And bear in mind that email system administrators do not require your password in order to carry out their functions. Finally, if you should ever receive an email like the one below, please remember not to panic and rush off to send those dollars.

Apologies to anyone who may receive multiple copies of this posting.

Regards,

DS.

My friend was a victim of this hooliganism. Fortunately those Nigerians did not get any thing as people contacted had to confirm first before sending their dollars through telephone. And here is where the Nigerians failed.
