2010 UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
The Minister of Education and Vocational Training Hon. Prof. Jumanne
Maghembe (MP) and the Ministry in general congratulate the University of Dar es
Salaam (UDSM) for achieving the top 100 in 2010 University ranking and
recognize UDSM contributions to quality higher education in Tanzania.
In his appreciation to the Hon. Minister, the Vice Chancellor of the University of
Dar es Salaam Prof. Rwekaza Mukandala said that UDSM shall continue with the
effort to uphold quality in the implementation of its mission, goals and
objectives, also to ensure that the achievements made from time to time are
visible internationally through the web.
According to the recent Web Popularity Ranking, University of Dar es Salaam is
ranked 10

th while Sokoine University of Agriculture is ranked 45th out of the top
100 Universities in Africa. In terms of East and Central Africa, University of Dar
es Salaam is ranked 2nd while SUA is ranked 6th position.
As stipulated in the recently developed Higher Education Development
Programme (HEDP), it is expected that by 2015, about 20-30% of Tanzania
Universities shall be ranked amongst the top 100 Universities in Africa. "This
indeed is a challenge to other Universities and University Colleges in the
country", said the Hon. Minister.
