Well fellows, it happened. Something that was seen as impossible if not improbable did happen this past weekend. Some people were left with some questions of what that really meant. I’m talking about a chance encounter between Edward Lowassa former Presidential candidate (CHADEMA) and his opponent in the last year’s General Election President John Magufuli. The two met (pictured) at the 50th wedding Jubilee celebration for Former President Benjamin Mkapa and his wife Mama Anna Mkapa at St. Peters Catholic Church, Oysterbay in Dar-es-Salaam.

Following the last year’s election Lowassa refused to concede defeat and for some time had continued to claim that he was the winner of the election and that the ruling party had colluded with the Electoral Commission to rig the results. In fact, he went as far as to claim that he had won with an overwhelming majority. While some of his supporters and CHADEMA leaders accepted the victory of President Magufuli Lowassa on his part continued to hold back his recognition.

Magufuli on the other hand not only did he ignore the claims of his opponent he went on to initiate several steps to bring discipline in the government, control wasteful spending as well as some steps that were seen as controversial.

Of all the controversial actions Magufuli has taken none proved to be more divisive and combative than that of limiting the free exercise of politics in the country. His reasoning that political parties and politicians should focus their politics in their respective constituencies was opposed by many in the opposition. Not only that the police following the cue from the President issued a blanket order to political parties to halt any plans of political rallies and demonstrations. On that one Magufuli had crossed a line that was intolerable; at least according to CHADEMA.

Magufuli has thus been portrayed as reckless, dangerous with proclivities of a dictatorship if not a READ MORE

He had already said it clearly that he was not in to be toasted around and now he has given last warning.

Edward Lowasa had no idea President Magufuli was also attending the function so he had no any means to circumvent his handshake or even his smile.

They even prepared for the two to have photos taken just for records, that's great protocol.

This country is not the one to play with when you mention politics and Lowasa knows that.

CHADEMA were invited and Lowasa decided to go there nobody forced him, he made that decision himself and surely his colleagues would have been infuriated with that.

Instead, today they were in indoor meeting and Lowasa was there, again.

Lets wait and see as things continue to unfold.

Dear Mwanakijiji, your writing sounds like someone who is celebrating the rise of Dictatorship in our land, it is shameful for an author like you to use your pen with joy to command our President for what he is doing while you know for sure beyond reasonable doubt that if this system stands, we and our children will never experience the freedom of expression in our own land, His ministers are very busy with matamko na nonsense marufuku of everything, almost all opposition MPs have been arrested for stupid uchochezi cases and you still stand to praise this rising regime. shame on you brother! young generation now is scared to express their thought and feelings on social media because tomorrow they be arrested for writing what they think about their own country. For sure those who are celebrating now should be watchful because they don't know yet what tomorrow will bring.

Ningeandika Kichewa then kungekuwa na hoja hapa...

This is too low for the man of your calibre...
One day you will regret taking part in support of this regime but it will be too late...
I assure you people will die on Sep 1st and more will die days to come as consequences of the events that will take place on September 1st....and you know this...but the best you are doing is to add fuel to the burning fire....
Shame on you....
One day you shall answer for the this either in this world or the one to come...

Nimekusoma vizuri kabisa. Asante kwa mawazo haya murua.
