Rev. Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, the president of the United Nations General Assembly, bestows official hero status - "World Hero of Social Justice" to first president of Tanzania Julius Nyerere. Mama Maria Nyerere accepted the same on his behalf.

The heading is misleading. Mwalimu Nyerere cannot receive awards from the UN anymore. He can only receive them from God. He can be given awards here on earth, but he cannot receive them.

Kwa namna yoyote yule Mwalimu Nyerere anapaswa kupewa award hiyo, Kwa maana hakuna kiongozi katika Tanzania ya sasa kama Nyerere

I think he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize but I'm not sure if they give out posthumous ones. R.I.P. Mwalimu. Your legacy will live on forever, awards or not.

As the then president of Tanzania he helped many other African countries in their struggle for independence. He also played a big role in helping South Africans with their fight against apartheid.

Many of those were armed struggles which I think won't qualify for a Nobel Peace prize...
