The Police in Bushenyi District are holding a 14-year-old girl for allegedly stoning to death a man who attempted to defile her.
According to the Police, the girl (names withheld because she is a minor) reportedly hit the 40-year-old herdsman, Yosefat Mpigika, last Thursday.
District Police Commander Jimmy Oyuku yesterday told Daily Monitor that the girl was arrested on Monday.
The herdsman reportedly made advances at the girl after realising she was alone at home in Ruharambo village, Kabira Sub-county.
The girl, says Mr Oyuku, ran into the house but Mpigika followed her there. She then sneaked through a window but the herdsman was undeterred, pursuing her further.
Mpigika reportedly caught up with the girl and pinned her on the ground. But the girl was not about to give up her fight for chastityshe picked a stone lying nearby and hit Mpigikas head, which began bleeding profusely.
When the girl saw blood spilling out of the mans head, she got frightened and made an alarm which alerted the neighbours. They rushed him to Kitagata Hospital but he could not survive.
The girl said this was not the first time Mpigika had attempted to defile her. She had reported previous incidents to her mother who in turn reported to Mpigikas boss, only identified as Kakoko.
Mr Oyuku said the Police are still holding the girl for safe custody as they seek advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Mpigika was buried on Sunday.
