Governance and Health Systems Development in East Africa

School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)

The School of Oriental and African studies (SOAS) in association with The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is organising a Residential School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 18tttth – 22nd July 2011 on the topic of ‘Governanceand Health Systems Development in East Africa’.

The residential school is for 20 participants who are Health Executives, Health Policy makers, Health Academics, or Health NGOs representatives predominantly from East African countries (Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia) who will gain, through this training, new ideas and experience on the wide issue of governance in relation to the development of health systems development. We welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds public health, hospitals and the rural health sector.

Applicants should have a strong health management background and/or professional experiences in fields relevant to the theme of Governance and Health Systems Development in Africa.

All costs for successful applicants, including economy flights, accommodation, and subsistence, will be covered. The school will run from July 18th-22, 2011.

Applications should include:

1. CV (including email address for correspondence)
2. one reference letter ( or names of referees in CV)
3. Proposal of max 1500 words outlining leadership and governance in

Health interest and professional background and how the applicant will benefit from attending the Summer School
