REUTERS/Omar Sobhani A suicide bomber has attacked a Shia Muslim shrine in central Kabul where hundreds of people had gathered to celebrate the festival of Ashura, causing many casualties, according to Afghan officials. Mohammad Zahir, a senior police official in the Afghan capital, said the blast on Tuesday morning had killed up to 20, but there were no firm details yet. Ashura marks the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammad's grandson Hussein in the battle of Karbala in Iraq in the year 680. The blast occurred in the city centre as Shias gathered to carry out religious rituals to mark the day, a public holiday in Afghanistan. Four people were killed in a separate bombing on Tuesday, in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif. A district police official said the dead included at least one district police official.
