Vice President Joe Biden laughed at Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan Thursday for his attacks on the stimulus, reminding him that he requested stimulus funding for his Wisconsin district.

"I love my friend here," Biden said during the debate in Danville, Ky.

"I'm not allowed to show letters here, but go on our website. He sent me two letters saying, by the way, can you send me some stimulus money for companies here in the state of Wisconsin?"

Ryan is a frequent critic of the stimulus, using it as an example of out-of-control spending by the Obama administration. But as noted by Biden, Ryan requested stimulus money for his district.

Ryan acknowledged at the debate that he asked for funding. "On two occasions we advocated for constituents who were applying for grants," Ryan said, adding it's something members of congress do for the people in their district.

Biden seemed to find that statement funny.

"I love that, I love that," Biden said, laughing. "This is such a bad program and he writes me a letter saying -- writes the Department of Energy a letter saying -- the reason we need this stimulus, it will create growth and jobs. His words. And now he's sitting here looking at me."...:poa...:majani7:

Biden added: "I wish he would just tell the -- be a little more candid," stopping himself from calling Ryan a liar.

Moderator Martha Raddatz finally said they needed to move on.

"By the way, any letter you send me, I'll entertain," Biden quipped to Ryan before they switched topics, to which Ryan replied, "I appreciate that, Joe."

Nimependa jinsi babu anavyompa tuisheni kijana Ryan. Jamaa ametulia, anazo facts kichwani na ni amefanya kile ambacho Obama alipaswa kufanya katika debate ya kwanza: kumweka sawa mpinzani wake pale anapoweka facts za uwongo.

Joe Biden Addresses 47 Percent During Vice Presidential Debate

One of the most notable parts of the first presidential debate was what wasn't mentioned: Mitt Romney's now-famous remarks saying that 47 percent of the American public is "dependent on government." Both Republicans and Democrats seemed surprised that moderator Jim Lehrer never asked about it, and President Barack Obama never took the chance to proactively mention it -- even though his campaign had been hammering Romney about it all week.

But Vice President Biden brought it up within the first half-hour of the vice president debate on Thursday, also mentioning Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) remark that 30 percent of Americans want the "welfare state."

Noting that Romney opposed the auto bailout -- which both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations supported -- Biden said Americans should not be surprised by Romney's economic policies.

"It shouldn't be surprising for a guy who says 47 percent of the American people are unwilling to take responsibility of their own lives," said Biden. "My friend [Ryan] recently said in a speech in Washington said 30 percent of the American people are takers. These people are my mom and dad, the people I grew up with, my neighbors. They pay more effective tax than Gov. Romney pays in his federal income tax. They are elderly people who in fact are living off of Social Security. They are veterans who are fighting in Afghanistan right now who are not quote, not paying taxes."

Biden also invoked Grover Norquist, the conservative president of Americans for Tax Reform, criticizing Republicans for consistently signing his pledge vowing not to raise taxes.

"Instead of signing pledges by Grover Norquist not to ask the wealthiest among us to contribute to bring back the middle class, they should be signing a pledge saying to the middle class, 'We're going to level the playing field. We're going to give you a fair shot again. We are going to not repeat the mistakes we made in the past by having a different set of rules for Wall Street and Main Street.'"

WASHINGTON -- An hour into the debate, a survey of more than 300 debate watchers from across the political spectrum finds that Vice President Joe Biden is handily beating Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) by a margin of 65 percent to 35 percent.

The survey, conducted for HuffPost by OverTheShoulder.com, is dubbed a "Smartphone Town Hall" and draws on a random sample of more than 300 voters. The members of the panel are watching the debate live and answering questions sent to their phones.

Roughly the first 20 minutes of the debate focused on foreign policy and national security, a comfort zone for Biden and something Ryan has spent little time on. Still, the Obama campaign has been on its heels since a deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killed the U.S. ambassador there. The debate then moved to domestic policy, and Biden immediately lit into Ryan over Mitt Romney's infamous 47 percent comments.

Biden has spent the night on the offensive, smiling and laughing as Ryan answers, sometimes fact-checking him before he finishes his sentence.

Thirty minutes into last week's debate, a similar panel was reporting that Romney was pulling ahead -- with nearly one-third of likely Obama voters giving the nod to Romney, a clear sign that things were headed in the GOP presidential nominee's direction. By the end of the debate, before listening to any post-debate spin, the panel decided that Romney had won by a 57 percent to 43 percent margin, with nearly half of Obama backers giving it to Romney.

Over The Shoulder generally focuses on large, instant focus groups for corporate clients.

A separate panel of several hundred HuffPost readers is also watching the debate live and responding to questions. Those results will be available after the debate.

Umesikia closing remarks? Kijana hapendi kukiri kuwa unemployment imeshuka below 8% lakini hawezi kusema wao watafanya nini tofauti na utawala wa Obama. Nadhani debate ijayo Obama atachukua a lesson from this debate.

    BAK,
Nadhani for Ohio it is too late. More than 40% ya wapiga kura wameshashiriki kwenye early voting na most of those are thought to be Obama supporters. Romney is wasting his money on Ohio. Miami and Virginia are close but I think in the last analysis, Obama will carry Virginia, my neighbouring state. Oh, and I just wanted to add one more thing: did you guys see the way Biden was addressing the audience by looking directly at the camera? Ingenious!
