Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government – Education) Kassim Majaliwa has asked flood victims in Dar es Salaamto immediately report people they suspect to be imposters but mix with them as bona fide victims in order to benefit from relief supplies being provided.
Speaking to flood victims at Hananasif centre over the weekend, Majaliwa said the relief supplies should be well supervised by the responsible authorities with the aim of widding out non-victims who were out to take advantage of the situation.
“This opportunity could be abused by people with bad intentions…so we want you to be the watchdog to identify and report them to your leaders,” he noted.
Meanwhile, individual Tanzanians and groups have been urged to continue helping food victims by offering different aid as well as important basic needs as the government worked on their accommodation.
The call was made by different social organizations including religious institutions.
Chairman of the Khoja Shia Jamat community Ain Shariff said presenting aid to Hananasif ward councillor Abbas Tarimba, “We have offered to help these victims who are our relatives by providing them food and other necessities…we are prepared to continue assisting them for six consecutive days.”
A representative from Bochasanwasi Akshar Purshotam Sanstha (BAPS) mosque at Kisutu, Paresh Chollera, presented water bottles and medicines worth 1m/- to Ilala Special Seats councilor Aisha Sululu.
