Chitipa North Member of Parliament Nick Masebo rose to make a contribution on ‘point of order' but Mpaweni also rising on ‘point of order' said the Chitipa parliamentarian was coming from Tanzania and not the northern part of Malawi.
"Chitipa in Tanzania," said Mpaweni sending the house into unrest.
Deputy Minister of Persons with disabilities and the elderly, Chimango Mughogho, who hails from Chitipa rose to reprimand Mpaweni for the remarks.
Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, George Chaponda, also condemned the MP for ‘fouling the truth' and called a withdraw of the statement and an apology.
.Foreign Affairs Minister Etta Banda also added her voice to the matter saying the remarks on record could bring diplomatic row.
The parliamentarian refused to withdraw his remarks and the deputy speaker revoked standing order 103 to send him out of the house.
But drama ensued when all members of parliament from the former ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) walked out of the house in solidarity with Mpaweni.-(Reporting by Wanga Gwede, Nyasa Times)
