Police on Monday shot dead eight suspected gangsters and recovered three firearms on Waiyaki Way in Nairobi.

Police also recovered two vehicles in the shootout near Communication Commission of Kenya's (CCK) offices.

The eight were travelling in two vehicles from Kikuyu, where they had reportedly gone to raid a chemist.

Officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit had been trailing them from Mombasa Road to Kikuyu town.

The chemist, which they were allegedly going to raid, had been closed. Officers are said to have been acting on a tip-off.

Nairobi police boss Anthony Kibuchi said that the eight were wanted over several robberies within Nairobi and its environs.

Elsewhere, police on Monday found 78 vehicle engines and several spare parts at a garage in Kariobangi South, Nairobi.

The owner of the garage was arrested. Police suspect that stolen vehicles are dismantled and then sold as spare parts.

Buruburu police boss Jacinta Wesonga said that the suspect was charge with being in possession of suspected stolen properties.

"We are waiting for those who could have lost their vehicles to report to enable us prefer other charges," she said.

Well done Kenyan Police, na this no time for raiders to enjoy their hegemony as been doing. Na them know Government is awake.
