    THOUSANDS of jubilant Zanzibaris on Wednesday turned out at the Amani Stadium to mark the 47th Revolution Anniversary, at a ceremony spiced by military pomp and fun-fare.

    Supporters of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the main opposition Civic United Front (CUF) joined ranks to fly the country's flags, a clear demonstration to the end of bitter rivalry, tension and mistrust experienced in the Isles for several years.

    The occasion saw CUF Secretary General, Mr Seif Sharif Hamad, who is the First Vice-President, and other top government leaders seated closer at the main stand. CCM and CUF leaders wore broad smiles for most of the time during the occasion.

    Ten guards of the armed forces mounted the grand parade and fired 21-gun salute to Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein.

    Despite the brief showers, the men and commanders displayed pageant and gallantry during the parade.

    Thousands of jubilant Zanzibaris held aloft placards with revolutionary messages and praises to leaders, as well as calls to sustainable peace and concord in the country's Indian Ocean islands of Pemba and Unguja.
