Alba, Mata in Spain's Olympic squad
Spain have named Euro 2012 winners Juan Mata, Jordi Alba and Javi Martinez in a strong provisional squad for the Olympic football tournament in London.

Jordi Alba scored in the Euro 2012 final (Reuters)Just two days after their triumph in Kiev, Spain have turned their attentions to the 2012 Games with the Spanish federation naming a 22-man squad that must later be cut to 18.

The star name is Alba, who was Spain's first-choice left-back at Euro 2012 and proved to be one of the stars of the tournament ahead of his imminent move from Valencia to Barcelona.
Chelsea midfielder Mata - scorer of the fourth goal in the final victory over Italy - is joined in the squad by club-mate Oriol Romeu, who is a member of a hugely talented midfield that also includes Barcelona's Thiago Alcantara and Iker Muniain and Ander Herrera, two of the young players who impressed with Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League last season.
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is also included, ensuring his preparations for the new domestic season will be disrupted.

Goalkeepers: De Gea (Manchester United), Robles (Atletico Madrid), Marino (Villarreal)
Defenders: Azpilicueta (Marseille), Alba (Valencia), Martinez (Athletic Bilbao), Dominguez (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Montoya (Barcelona), Botia (Sporting Gijon), San Jose (Athletic Bilbao), Martinez (Real Sociedad)

Midfielders: Thiago (Barcelona), Herrera (Athletic Bilbao), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Romeu (Chelsea), Isco (Malaga), Mata (Chelsea), Muniain (Athletic Bilbao)
Forwards: Adrian (Atletico Madrid), Vasquez (Espanyol), Tello (Barcelona), Rodrigo (Benfica)

Massive support to Kenya summer Olympics team.

The Kenyan national team has strong warning to other competitors as the country's countdown to 2012 summer Olympics games due kick off in London next month. Kenya, which has dominated middle and marathon events in nearly all major athletics competitions, received the country's flag from President Mwai Kibaki signalling the government's support the nation's team at the forthcoming Olympics.

Kenya’s Prime Minister Dr Raila Odinga hosted the country’s team to dinner and the Premier challenged the team to surpass their best performance recorded in Beijing four years ago.

At a farewell dinner for the team hosted by Proctor & Gamble, Odinga confirmed the country's two principals will also witness part of the competitive action as he exuded confidence the class of 2012 would return Kenya's best performance at the games yet. In the last Beijing Olympics, the country won 14 medals of which 6 were gold,4 silver and 4 Bronze.

The Prime Minister conceded there was lack of adequate facilities to develop sport in the nation but assured with the new County Governance system that will be in place after the forthcoming national elections.

On Wednesday, the country’s leading telecommunications company Safaricom pledged One Million Shillings All Gold medallists, Sh 600, 000 for silver medallists and Sh 300,000 to all bronze medallists in the Olympic Games. Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has also announced a one million prize-money for first, second and third finish.

Brazil name strong Olympic squad for London 2012

Brazil have included forwards Hulk, Neymar and Alexandre Pato in a strong squad for this summer's Olympic Games.
Santos' Neymar has nine goals in 18 games for the senior team, while AC Milan's Pato and Porto's Hulk have also impressed for the full side.
Hulk is one of three over-aged players along with defenders Marcelo (Real Madrid) and Thiago Silva (AC Milan).
Coach Mano Menezes has also picked Manchester United defender Rafael and Tottenham midfielder Sandro.
Hulk, 25, has scored three goals for the senior side since making his full debut in 2009 and the coach said he hoped the Porto player's experience would help his side.
"He brings a lot of strength to the team," said Menezes. "His experience will be important in big matches, as well as his great ability to be decisive."
Menezes has also selected several promising young stars such as Santos midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso, striker Leandro Damiao and midfielder Oscar (both Internacional) and Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas, all of whom have senior caps to their name.
Brazil, who are aiming to win their first Olympic football title, have been drawn in Group C along with Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand.
But before that they will play a warm-up friendly against Stuart Pearce's Team GB side at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium on 20 July.
Goalkeepers: Rafael Cabral (Santos), Neto (Fiorentina)
Defenders: Marcelo (Real Madrid), Rafael (Manchester United), Danilo (Porto), Alex Sandro (Porto), Thiago Silva (AC Milan), Juan (Inter Milan), Bruno Uvini (Sao Paulo)
Midfielders: Romulo (Vasco da Gama), Ganso (Santos), Oscar (Internacional), Sandro (Tottenham Hotspur), Lucas (Sao Paulo)
Forwards: Neymar (Santos), Alexandre Pato (AC Milan), Leandro Damiao (Internacional), Hulk (Porto).

Double European champions Greece made a shock exit from the Olympic basketball qualifiers on Friday following a narrow 80-79 defeat against Nigeria.
Macedonia, who were also fancied to make the semi-finals of the 12-team tournament in Venezuela, were sent packing after an 86-76 defeat by the Dominican Republic while Russia and Lithuania rolled into the last four.
The Russians, 80-65 winners over Angola, will play Nigeria for a berth in the final, while Lithuania, who eked out a 76-72 success against Puerto Rico, will take on the Dominican Republic later on Saturday.
The top three teams will qualify for the Olympics and join the United States, Great Britain, Spain, France, Argentina, Tunisia, Australia, Brazil and China.
The Greeks seemed to be on course to qualify when they opened up a 13-point lead midway through the third quarter but Nigeria's bench player Ade Dagenduro dashed their hopes by scoring the last seven points for his team in a frantic finish.
The defeat will have come as a huge blow to Greece, who last won the European Championship in 2005 and whose champions Olympiakos Piraeus are also the title holders in the Euroleague, which is the continent's elite club competition.
American-born point guard Lester McCalebb buried 25 points for Macedonia, who finished fourth in last year's Euros in Lithuania, but his valiant solo effort was not enough to contain a rampant second-half performance by the Dominicans.
Fernando Garcia led the winners with 28 points while Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford recovered from a poor first half to finish the game with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Senegal leave Papiss Cisse out of Olympic squad

Senegal have omitted Newcastle United's Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba from their squad for this month's Olympic Games.
The Senegalese federation had been in talks with Newcastle, who were loathe to release Cisse in pre-season with an Africa Cup of Nations next January.
Everton striker Magaye ueye and West Ham United midfielder Mohamed Diame have been included in the squad.
Diame, 25, is one of the squad's three over-age players, along with Dame N'Doye, 27, and Ibrahima Balde, 23.
Gueye's inclusion is unexpected since the 21-year-old has previously represented France at youth level and has yet to appear for Senegal.
However, the Senegalese federation has told BBC Sport that clearance has been received from Fifa to allow Gueye's switch of nationality.
Both FC Copenhagen striker N'Doye and Diame played in this year's Africa Cup of Nations, when the Senegalese crashed out in the first round without a win despite being tipped by many to lift the trophy.
If they are to qualify for next January's finals in South Africa, the Teranga Lions must beat Ivory Coast over two legs in the final round of 2013 Nations Cup qualifying.
Senegal open their Olympic campaign against hosts Great Britain in Manchester on 26 July, before moving to London to face Uruguay at Wembley three days later.
The first-time qualifiers conclude their Group A campaign when taking on United Arab Emirates in Coventry on 1 August.

    Squad:

Goalkeepers: Ousmane Mane (Diambars FC), Papa Demba Camara (Sochaux, France)

Defenders: Abdoulaye Ba (Academica Coimbra, Portugal), Serigne Kara Mbodji, Saliou Ciss (both Tromso, Norway), Papa Gueye (Metallist Kharkiv, Ukraine), Pape Ndiaye Souare (Lille, France), Zargo Toure (Boulogne-sur-Mer, France), Victor Demba Bindia (Sandefjord, Norway), Cheikhou Kouyate (Anderlecht, Belgium)

Midfielders: Stephane Badji (Sogndal, Norway), Idrissa Gana Gueye (Lille, France), Mohamed Diame (West Ham United, England), Moussa Konate (Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel), Sadio Mane (Metz, France)

Forwards: Magaye Gueye (Everton, England), Ibrahima Balde (Osasuna, Spain), Dame N'Doye (Copenhagen, Denmark).
