Massive support to Kenya summer Olympics team.

The Kenyan national team has strong warning to other competitors as the country's countdown to 2012 summer Olympics games due kick off in London next month. Kenya’s Prime Minister Dr Raila Odinga hosted the country’s team to dinner and the Premier challenged the team to surpass their best performance recorded in Beijing four years ago.

At a farewell dinner for the team hosted by Proctor & Gamble, Odinga confirmed the country's two principals will also witness part of the competitive action as he exuded confidence the class of 2012 would return Kenya's best performance at the games yet. In the last Beijing Olympics, the country won 14 medals of which 6 were gold,4 silver and 4 Bronze.

The Prime Minister conceded there was lack of adequate facilities to develop sport in the nation but assured with the new County Governance system that will be in place after the forthcoming national elections.

On Wednesday, the country’s leading telecommunications company Safaricom pledged One Million Shillings All Gold medallists, Sh 600, 000 for silver medallists and Sh 300,000 to all bronze medallists in the Olympic Games. Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has also announced a one million prize-money for first, second and third finish.

Double European champions Greece made a shock exit from the Olympic basketball qualifiers on Friday following a narrow 80-79 defeat against Nigeria.
Macedonia, who were also fancied to make the semi-finals of the 12-team tournament in Venezuela, were sent packing after an 86-76 defeat by the Dominican Republic while Russia and Lithuania rolled into the last four.
The Russians, 80-65 winners over Angola, will play Nigeria for a berth in the final, while Lithuania, who eked out a 76-72 success against Puerto Rico, will take on the Dominican Republic later on Saturday.
The top three teams will qualify for the Olympics and join the United States, Great Britain, Spain, France, Argentina, Tunisia, Australia, Brazil and China.
The Greeks seemed to be on course to qualify when they opened up a 13-point lead midway through the third quarter but Nigeria's bench player Ade Dagenduro dashed their hopes by scoring the last seven points for his team in a frantic finish.
The defeat will have come as a huge blow to Greece, who last won the European Championship in 2005 and whose champions Olympiakos Piraeus are also the title holders in the Euroleague, which is the continent's elite club competition.
American-born point guard Lester McCalebb buried 25 points for Macedonia, who finished fourth in last year's Euros in Lithuania, but his valiant solo effort was not enough to contain a rampant second-half performance by the Dominicans.
Fernando Garcia led the winners with 28 points while Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford recovered from a poor first half to finish the game with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Senegal leave Papiss Cisse out of Olympic squad

Senegal have omitted Newcastle United's Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba from their squad for this month's Olympic Games.
The Senegalese federation had been in talks with Newcastle, who were loathe to release Cisse in pre-season with an Africa Cup of Nations next January.
Everton striker Magaye ueye and West Ham United midfielder Mohamed Diame have been included in the squad.
Diame, 25, is one of the squad's three over-age players, along with Dame N'Doye, 27, and Ibrahima Balde, 23.
Gueye's inclusion is unexpected since the 21-year-old has previously represented France at youth level and has yet to appear for Senegal.
However, the Senegalese federation has told BBC Sport that clearance has been received from Fifa to allow Gueye's switch of nationality.
Both FC Copenhagen striker N'Doye and Diame played in this year's Africa Cup of Nations, when the Senegalese crashed out in the first round without a win despite being tipped by many to lift the trophy.
If they are to qualify for next January's finals in South Africa, the Teranga Lions must beat Ivory Coast over two legs in the final round of 2013 Nations Cup qualifying.
Senegal open their Olympic campaign against hosts Great Britain in Manchester on 26 July, before moving to London to face Uruguay at Wembley three days later.
The first-time qualifiers conclude their Group A campaign when taking on United Arab Emirates in Coventry on 1 August.

Goalkeepers: Ousmane Mane (Diambars FC), Papa Demba Camara (Sochaux, France)
