VERBS
these are words that name an action or describe a state of being. They describe what is happening in the sentence. In fact every complete sentence needs to include at least one verb.

Types of verbs.
There are two types of Verbs. These are
Action verbs
Linking verbs.

ACTION VERBS
Action verbs are verbs which show that something is being done, was done or will be done. In short they show actions. To put it clear they show what the subject of the sentence performs. ( subject in a sentence is a indicates the doer of the action) the person who performs an action in the sentence.
Example of the action verbs are walk, played, cross, singing etc.
Action verbs tells what action someone or something is performing.
E.g - father is driving a car
Kashindi teaches english.
The boy killed a lion.
On the above sentences the verbs driving, teaches, and killed are action verbs because they show what is or was perfomed.

In addition we should understand that action verbs can further be divided into
Transitive verbs
Intranstive verbs.

Transitive verb is an action verb that directs action from the perfomer of the action to the receiver of the action. This means from subject to object. This means that the action being performed by the subject affects the receiver of object of the sentence. To put this short. A transitive verb is an action verb which has the object. ( object of the sentence is the receiver of the action performed by the subject)
Intransitive verbs
these are action verbs which do indicate subject of the sentence but it does not indicate the object of the sentense.
Eg
John slept yesterday.
The car was stolen.
The train went to kigoma.

LINKING VERBS
These are verbs which do not show action in the sentence. Instead they link two parts of the sentence. So in short you can just say linking verbs shiw relationship between worda in a sentence. Sone of these verbs are: Is , are, was, were, be, is being, are being, was being, were being,am, can be may be, could be, etc.
Eg. New york is a city
In the sentence above no action which is performed. But the verb IS shows the status of the new york city.

- The best students were ndilakobucha and Kayandabila
In the above sentence the verb were indicates no action being performed rather it is just connecting two sentences which is " ndilakobucha was a best student and kayandabila was a best student.
