JK TO MEET OBAMA: MUHIDIN ISSA MICHUZI in San Francisco, 18th May 2009
President Jakaya Kikwete is expected to be the first African head of state to meet US President Barack Obama since his inauguration.President Kikwete and his delegation arrived here on Saturday, for a week-long official tour and is scheduled to visit President Obama at the White House on Friday.
From the word go, the underlying reasons for this entire trip have been nothing short of cosmetic adventures in a western country by an African leader. The shifty itinerary is clearly indicative of that. It may not be an official release; however the pattern demoed here (thanks to Jasusi and Mwawado feeds) has certain hallmark of a qualified make-do agenda.
Just mull over this; a president of a sovereign nation visiting another country but taking him/her a week long before having a chance to meet the host… It's hard to find a meeting slot for a clingy African leader isn't it? It passes as certified eye-catching alibi though in our media circles – "The First African Head of State to Meet US President Barack Obama" Kalaghabao!
The US President, who recently marked 100 days in office, is reportedly under tremendous pressure from African nations and their diplomatic representatives in Washington to leaders from the continent.
Kaka Michuzzzzi (uniwie radhi kama wewe ni mjumbe tu), Above is a flat lie. Obama is under pressure from his own government, pressure to deliver what he promised when he took office. Transparency and accountability is paramount for his nation, and history is testimonial to all that. In my opinion, one of the least pressures he could be under is the one by African leaders, particularly, the clingy ones, whom time and time again unsettled in their dominions, keep on queuing with mabakuli for more donation to the detriment of their nations. But now we know, where there is no agenda a Friday lunch time slot suffices.
According to a programme released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, the President will also meet with the US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton and the IMF Managing Director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, in Washington DC on the same day. The president is accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Mr Bernard Membe and Zanzibar Minister for Labour, Youth, Women and Children Development Affairs, Ms Asha A. Juma.
The above to some extent is a fair representation; however I still believe that Hon. Membe and his cortege would have been capable of executing successfully what the President has on this mission. Unless they aren't, but again if so then this is open for debate.
On Monday, President Kikwete will visit Stanford University and later Google headquarters, as well as the IBM University where he is to be briefed on the firm's activities in Africa, cognitive computing project and IBM BlueGene Supercomputer. On the following day, President Kikwete will tour the Sillicon Valley, where he is scheduled to hold talks with CISCO, Google and IBM executives. On Wednesday, President Kikwete flies to Los Angeles for a number of activities, including the Global Water for Life Event hosted on Thursday by the House of Mohans. We are not completely objecting to the president's visits abroad, we are merely stating that whatever he is up to can be done more efficiently and along the way save our nation from ill-treat of the meager resources we have (off course we have plenty of natural resources but we have failed to tame it to our benefit!).
Really, couldn't they schedule the above to coincide with the UN meeting in September? I believe two to three days extra beyond or prior to what Mr. President would normally spend during UN processions would be sufficient enough to carry forth such futile PR stunts with multinational companies.
Again Kaka Michuzi, Mr. Kikwete is in US as the president of URT and not under some sort of mandate to oversee activities of those companies in States on behalf of African nations. Those companies already operate in some few African countries solely due to in-built conducive business ambiance. Muhimu kwao ni UMEME, MABARABARA, SIMU na SHERIA. Vingine vyote vinafatia!! Tunataka kuvaa viatu kisha ndiyo tuvae socks!! Tunataka kusonga ugali wakati mwiko hatuna halafu unga bado ukiwa unakobolewa kwenye mashine ya jirani!!
Mnakumbuka ziara moja huko Marekani ya Mh. Rais alipoenda kupigia debe sekta ya madini. Nadhani ilioneshwa au kutangazwa na VoA. Ilionekana njema maana ililenga mema (perceived value)!! Daaah!... Let's wake up. Infrastructure first.
Now tell me if I'm wrong, doesn't this whole razzmatazz about visiting Google, IBM, Cisco and whatever resemble an adventure of a school trip kwenda kuona kiwanda cha soda?! (I won't name one as doing so wud be promoting – let them sponsor JF first!!) ambapo mkifika getini mnaambiwa vaeni gloves, au hi-vis, au safety shoes… kisha mkiwa ndani mnakuwa mnashangaa-shangaa tu jinsi vile robotic arms zinavyo pokezana chupa, vizibo vinavyo pachikwa, n.k. n.k.!!! Off course, that goes without forgetting one of the most memorable treats of all times – UNARUHUSIWA KUNYWA SODA JINSI UTAKAVYO ILI MRADI TU HAUTOKI NAYO NJE YA KIWANDA!! Hooray….yipiiiiii… watu wee weeee!!!
Seriously, tell me, what has the world of cognitive computing or BlueGene supercomputers got to do with a high profiled (as we are led to believe) state visit by a leader from one of HIPC nations? Their presence in other low income nations is highly influenced by what they see in those countries rather than pass-by tour sales pitch, pure and simple! Let's get real for once; ving'aavyo vimeumbwa, hivi bado hatujajua tu hili jamani na miaka yote hiyo kwenye foreign ministries?!
I can see how the Ikulu propaganda machine is working overtime to try and convince JF critics. Good job, albeit they went overboard by mentioning BlueGene (quite provocative on my part). And the entire visit is narrated akin of a leader paying visit to companies in his country and on the way jotting down names of corrupt officials!! Tunakutakia safari njema Mh. Rais.
Wiki njema wana JF!
