President Jakaya Kikwete jets in here on Tuesday where he will attend groundbreaking International Family Planning Summit that will launch a Global Movement aimed at giving an additional 120 million women in the world's poorest countries access to lifesaving family planning information, services and supplies by 2020.

The envisaged increased access will enable these women and girls to choose whether, when and how many children to have.

The summit, starting here on Wednesday, is being organised by the British government's department for international development (DFID) and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Hassan Mwinyi, arrived here on Monday to attend the summit. Between 20 and 25 countries are scheduled to attend, including
Tanzania, United States, India, Ethiopia and Nigeria.

Leaders from developing and developed countries, donors, civil society groups and the private sector will come together behind a simple vision: to give women in the developing world the same access to lifesaving family planning as women in the developed world.

The summit will seek a range of policy, financing and delivery commitments from developing countries, donors, the private sector and civil society.

The poorest countries are defined as those with a Gross National Income (GNI) of 2,500 US dollars per year or less (based on the World Bank 2010 classification using the Atlas Method) – a group of 69 countries.

    Tanzania
like a number of other Sub-Saharan countries has been taking various steps to accelerate progress and thereby reach national and international targets on family planning.

    Statistics in
Tanzania indicate that maternal mortality rates are beginning to decline. The maternal mortality ratio in 2004/05 was estimated to be 578 per 100,000 live births and has declined to 454 per 100,000 live births. This means a decline in annual maternal deaths from 8,100 to about 7,000.

I am sick to my styomach. Huyu ndiye rais wetu, Heri hata Matonya awe Rais kuliko Kikwete kuwa Rais. Matatizo lukuki nchini, bila aibu anaondoka kwenda kwenye family planning summit. This man is bogus. Mimi mwanamke lakini nadiriki kumuita Bogus. Mnyika alisema kweli. Huu ni udhaifu liopitiliza. Yaani bila aibu, huyu ni mtu wa aina gani jamani? Is this man normal?
