Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Chiku Gallawa
The Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Chiku Gallawa has ordered Kenyan land invaders who have constructed houses on Tanzanian land to vacate immediately.
Ms Gallawa was responding to a question raised by the Horohoro border post immigration officer, Mr Hashim Mvogogo, who claimed that some Kenyans had constructed permanent houses on Tanzanian land.
The regional boss said that international border laws and regulations should be properly observed by the people along the border line.
She blamed immigration officers for not taking action earlier enough when the illegal immigrants started putting up their houses in the area.
"We have given you the responsibility to make sure that the laws and regulations along our borders are well observed… but if you don't stand by the law, you'll be doing a disservice to the government that entrusted you the duty…Please be patriotic to your country," she said.
She also urged the officers from different departments at Horohoro border post to work with confidence to fulfill their responsibilities.
She said some of them have been working under fear or under directives from other people, pointing out that, for better performance, they should do away with inferiority complex as it was an enemy to development.
The RC was on a one-day tour of Horohoro border post to urge the officers who work there to increase their efficiency and tighten security along the border.
