Saw this today and wondered, can we help to keep alive our languages for the next generations?

Duolingo | Learn English, Spanish and German for free

Need to learn Kikulya, but don't know where to start, can such a facility help our nation to keep our traditional languages alive. beyond this generation (twitter/shorthand msgs).

Kama walivyoeleza kwenye video yao nadhani hii itakuwa a good "free" solution to compete with the likes of Rosettastone (bloody expensive)...

Why have u thought about vernacular languages and not Swahili so claimed to be national language????? My view is we should push for Swahili to be in as many computer application as possible.

I once asked/ conviced some fellow JF tech gurus in here to work together to have Swahii language pack in popular Free CMS like Joomla/Drupal /Worpdpress but no one is/was interested. You sometime find igbo, afrikanar and even kinywanda langauge in language option of some application but not swahili....

If its hard for kiswahili then its mission impossible for those vernacular.

So its possbile. if we put usability and other things into into consideration and not only correct langauge translation.

    Ukipata nafasi angalia

OpenOffice.org goes Swahili | Application Development | ZDNet UK

    pia

First Swahili office suite released in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - Wikinews, the free news source

The Kiswahili Linux Localization Project: OPENOFFICE Archives

Sikumbuki wapi download file lilipo ...

Sifahamu kama hii project is still alive au funds ziliisha, lakini hata hapo walipofikia sioni kama publicity ilifanyika ya kutosha, kwani sidhani kama downloads zilizidi a handful kwa waliokuwa curious tu na hii project, Je kuna yeyete anaitumia kama word processor yake kila siku?

On learning/Taching language, simaanishi kuwa tu'translate application lakini kujifunza mfano:

    1). Naenda sokoni kununua matunda
2). Naenda sokoni kumnunulia Issa matunda

The same pia inabidi ipate equivalent majibu in the other languages, hapo kutengeneza a database of completed words/sentences.
