The Fair Competition Commission (FCC) invites applications from suitably
qualified Tanzanian candidates to fill the post identified below. Applicants who had
applied for the post on the basis of the previous advertisement are encouraged to re-apply

The Fair Competition Commission is an independent Government Body established
under the Fair Competition Act, 2003 (No. 8 of 2003) to promote and protect effective
competition in trade and commerce and to protect consumer from unfair and misleading
market conduct. The ultimate goal of the Act is to increase efficiency in the production,
distribution and supply of goods and services. Challenging employment opportunity

DIRECTOR OF ANTI-COUNTERFEIT - FCC/DAA/01/09
Job Descriptions:
The Director of Anti- Counterfeits will report to the Director General. The successful
candidate will be responsible for:
• Advising and supporting the Director General on all matters relating to
the fight against counterfeits.
• Assisting the Director General in carrying out the duties and functions
of combating counterfeits as stipulated in the Merchandise Marks Act
1963 as amended.
• Overall management of the FCC’S Anti – Counterfeits Division.
In particular the incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
(a) carrying out supervisory role in respect of investigations and
enforcement of matters concerning counterfeit products that infringe
trademarks;
(b) Supervising proceedings before the court in manner stipulated under
the Merchandise Marks Act;
(c) Overall control of Entry Points of goods department;
(d) Overall supervision of counterfeits Tracing and Monitoring department
devising ways and means of tracing counterfeits in go-downs, retail
shops and private premises;
(e) Overall supervision of Anti-counterfeits Enforcement department;
(f) Overall supervision of awareness campaigns, education, destruction of
goods, logistics, and penalties;
(g) Liaison with other divisions of FCC dealing with Competition and
Consumer issues;
(h) Monitoring the performance of the directorate against agreed
performance targets.
Personal specifications:
• A graduate of a recognized university;
• At least ten years experience in one or more of the fields of management,
economics, finance or law;
• Solid management experience and excellent interpersonal and
communication skills;
• Experience in Competition and Consumer issues will be an added
advantage;
• GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidate should have high level of initiative, integrity, and enthusiasm
and ambition with proven track record of significant achievements. Candidate
should demonstrate that they are unlikely to have a conflict of interest under the
provisions of the Act.

commensurate with responsibilities of the position, experience and qualifications.

VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: DIRECTOR GENERAL

The Fair Competition Commission is an independent statutory body established under
the Fair Competition Act No. 8 of 2003. It is mandated with promoting and protecting
effective competition in trade and commerce in Tanzania, and protecting consumers
from unfair and misleading market conduct. The Act gives the Commission a wide
range of functions – as well as the accompanying powers – to regulate trade in the
country, so as to enhance economic efficiency through commercial competitiveness
and to promote the rights of consumers. These functions include carrying out inquiries,
studies and research into matters relating to competition, assessing the impact of
Government policies and legislation on competition and consumer welfare,
investigating policies and programmes of regulatory authorities, making representations
to Government and other bodies, investigating impediments to competition, promoting
public knowledge and understanding on the rights of consumers.
The Chairperson of the FCC Nomination Committee now invites applications for suitable
Tanzanians to fill the position of Director General which has just become vacant. The
Director General is the Commission’s Chief Executive, and is appointed on a five year
contract that may be renewed only once. The Director General shall be responsible for
the day to day operations of the Commission subject to the directions of the Board of
Commission.
Specifically, the Director General is expected to:
a) Provide strong leadership in the management of the Commission’s activities in
accordance with the stringent performance targets that are set by the
Commission;
b) Formulate strategies and programmes for canvassing Government organs and
other institutions in the country to promote fair competition and protect the rights
of consumers;
c) Prepare proposals for new or amended procedural rules in the work of the
Commission;
d) Prepare programmes for the rigorous implementation of the Commission’s
enforcement and advocacy roles, mobilize resources for the programmes, and
oversee the implementation of such programmes;
e) Promote awareness on the role and functions of the Commission amongst key
stakeholders in the country and amongst the general public;
f) Oversee the efficient and effective management of the Secretariat of the
Commission, and of its resources.
The Commission is looking for a mature, dynamic, and highly innovative and
experienced executive to fill this position. Applicants should have the following
qualifications, experiences and competencies:
�� They should be graduates in law, economics, commerce or other relevant
discipline; but the ideal candidate will have postgraduate qualifications –
Master’s degree or PhD – with a track record of at least ten years in
matters pertaining to trade and/or economic analysis.
�� They should possess management and advocacy skills with a good track
record of at least ten years in senior management positions of public
and/or corporate bodies.
�� They should be able to demonstrate integrity by modeling the
Commission’s values and ethical standards.
�� They should show capacity to advocate and promote the vision, mission
and strategic goals of the Commission.
�� They should have ability to build strong relationships with all key
stakeholders.
�� Previous experience of working with both public and private sector is an
added advantage but not mandatory.
