IRAMBA District Council plans to spend 300m/- in the 2010/2011 fiscal year to drill seven wells in Isene, Senene, Kinyambuli, Mseko, Munguli, Kisonzo and Kikonge villages, the National Assembly heard today.
The council has also set aside 30m/- for a deep well in Matongo village, in a drive to stem shortages of water. The Deputy Minister for Water and Irrigation, Christopher Chiza, said this in response to a question by Mgana Msindai (Iramba East-CCM).
He said that between 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, Iramba District Council executed mini water projects with immediate outcomes, known as quick-win schemes, under the water and clean environment programme under which 13 villages benefited.
The legislator questioned about the government plan to supply Iramba residents with reliable supply of clean water.
