    RBZ unveils $100 trillion note

Imerippotiwa na gazeti la serikali - Unaweza soma hapa

    Herald Reporter

THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has introduced a new family of trillion-dollar banknotes in denominations of $100 trillion, $50 trillion, $20 trillion and $10 trillion that go into circulation today, starting with the $10 trillion note.

The $20 trillion, $50 trillion and $100 trillion notes will be introduced gradually.

In a statement yesterday, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe said the notes would ensure that those in formal employment withdraw their salaries with minimal hassle.

‘‘In a move meant to ensure that the public has access to their money from banks, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has introduced a new family of banknotes which will gradually come into circulation, starting with the Z$10 trillion,’’ read the statement from the RBZ.

With effect from January 12, workers can now withdraw their entire January salary in cash as long as they produce their current payslips.

The new notes have the same security features as the existing ones: a colour shift stripe with RBZ printed on it, the Zimbabwe Bird colour shift on the front, and see-through of the values on either side which are in perfect register.

The $10 trillion note has the image of the RBZ Building and the Conical Tower at the Great Zimbabwe National Monuments.

The $100 trillion note has the image of a buffalo and the Victoria Falls, the $50 trillion the Kariba Dam spilling and an elephant, while a mineworker drilling in an underground shaft and the GMB grain silos appear on the new $20 trillion note.

RBZ last week introduced $10 billion, $20 billion and $50 billion notes with a view to enabling workers to access their full salaries.

Nimesikia Tsivangirai anarudi kutoka 'uhamishoni' SA kuzungumza na Mugabe. Hili linaleta matumaini huenda wakafanikiwa kuunda serikali ya pamoja. Nadhani wote wawili wanatakiwa kuweka maslahi ya taifa la Zimbabwe mbele na si maslahi yao binafsi au vyama vyao. Hali ya Zimbabwe inatisha na inatutia aibu waafrika.

Who is this true son of Africa ho lives in a place called Borrowdale, His Army HQ is known as King George VI and the second largest army base Llewellyn Barracks in Bulawayo, His name is Robert and the wife is Grace, His capital is full of street and suburbs with names like Mt. Quintillion per cent inflation and a 100 trillion dollar note in Zimbabwe

As hyper-inflation in Zimbabwe soars unabated, the central bank Friday
unveiled a new higher denomination bank note of Z$100 trillion. Official
figures of inflation in the country are unavailable, but economists estimate
it to be running into quintillion percent. The government stopped issuing
the figures in July last year, when it was 231 million percent, fearing they
would trigger speculation and profiteering. The central bank also issued
Friday new Z$10 trillion, Z$20 trillion and Z$50 trillion bank notes to help
the public grapple with hyper-inflation, the highest in the world. But
inspite of the new higher denomination bank notes, the purchasing power of
the money remains low. The new Z$100 trillion note can only buy 20 loaves of
bread. The country is mired in political, social and economic problems
widely blamed on President Robert Mugabe's mismanagement and refusal to step
down after almost three decades in power. (Friday 16 January - 14:33)
