Broadcaster Ngahyoma dies in Dar es Salaam

Seasoned journalist John Ngahyoma (50) has died in Dar es Salaam after a long battle against liver cancer, his brother also a journalist, Ngalimecha Ngahyoma said on Friday. Ngalimecha said his young brother, died at his Tabata- Segerea home on Friday morning.

The funeral wake was being held at Ngalimecha’s Kipunguni residence.Until his death, the late Ngahyoma worked for the BBC’s Dar es Salaam office. The burial is expected to be held on Saturday at the Kinondoni cemetery.

The late Ngahyoma started his career at ITV/Radio One and quickly distinguished himself as a talented broadcaster. He also had a print media stint at Mwafrika and The Express newspapers “He had been suffering from liver cancer, which doctors said was a very rare disease for the last five years,” said Ngalimecha. His condition became especially bad in the last two years, he added. The late Ngahyoma lives behind a widow and three children.
