Jerry Santo: In Tanzania players are kingsBy Patrick Korir

Former Tusker skipper Jerry Santo is amazed at football in Tanzania. Across the border, players are held in much higher regard compared to players in Kenya, says Jerry.

Playing in Dar for Simba SC for a second season since crossing over from Tusker at the close of 2010, Jerry is enjoying his time in Tanzania and keen on the next season.

much improved

- Being a player in Tanzania is very different. There you are a king and fans make you feel very important. You are made to appreciate being a player which in turn makes you play to your ultimate, said Jerry when paying a courtesy call to kenyanfootie.com offices in Westlands.

- Because of super mad following, the game is much improved and spiced with several foreigners, he added citing teams like Simba and Young Africans (Yanga) which draw up crowds of over 70,000 when the two meet in a derby of any nature

losing out to arch rivals

Santo, a former Dandora Youth player won the Vodacom Tanzanian league with Simba under Zambian Coach Patrick Phiri in the 2009/10 season but the team failed to defend the crown in the recently ended 2010/11 season after losing out to arch rivals Yanga on goal difference after the chase went down the wire.

Simba, now under Ugandan Coach Basena will soon assemble for early preparations with the upcoming CECAFA Club Championship in mind.
