Japan grants Burundi US$ 5 million to fight hunger

    Pana - 2009-11-25

Japan will grant Burundi US$ 5 million to help the country meet urgent needs in some of its districts gripped with acute food crisis due to climate change, the Japanese Ambassador to Burundi, resident in Nairobi, Mr. Shiego Iwatani, said here on Wednesday.

Priority will be given to people who returned to Burundi from exile as well as to displaced people, Iwatani disclosed.

The diplomat said the bilateral cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened early next year and would be extended to other key fields, including agriculture, socio-economic infrastructure, the private sector and tourism.
