Israel's former President Moshe Katsav has been jailed for seven years for rape and other sex offences.
He was convicted at an earlier hearing of raping an employee in the 1990s when he was tourism minister, and of later sexual offences while he was president.
The rape victim, known as Woman A, told the court he had first attacked her at the tourism ministry office, and later at a hotel in Jerusalem.
Katsav resigned from the largely ceremonial post of president in 2007.
He had initially agreed with prosecutors to plead guilty to sexual misconduct, avoiding more serious charges.
But he later withdrew the agreement, and denied the rape allegations.
Sentencing 65-year-old Katsav - the first former Israeli head of state to be jailed - the judges told him no-one was above the law.
His lawyers told the BBC he would not go to jail immediately as the court had allowed him a 30-day grace period to lodge an appeal.

But he later withdrew the agreement and denied the rape allegations.
'Riddled with lies'

Sentencing 65-year-old Katsav - the first former Israeli head of state to be jailed - the judges told him no-one was above the law.

The Associated Press reported that Katsav broke down in tears when he heard the sentence, shouting at the judges: "You made a mistake. It is a lie. The girls know it is a lie."

His lawyers told the BBC he would not go to jail immediately as the court had allowed him a 30-day grace period to lodge an appeal.

After his conviction in December last year, Israeli media dubbed the case a political earthquake, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as "a sad day for Israel and its residents".

According to court documents, he committed the rape in April 1998, and sexually harassed two women in 2003 and 2005 during his presidency.

Judge George Karra told him: "We believe the plaintiff [Woman A] because her testimony is supported by elements of evidence and she told the truth."
The judges said Katsav's evidence had been "riddled with lies".

Women's groups in Israel welcomed the conviction, arguing that allegations of sexual harassment were too often ignored.

Moshe Katsav, Israel's former president, has been sentenced to seven years in jail for rape, Israeli media reported.

The judges also handed the former leader a two-year suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a fine of 100,000 shekels ($28,000).

The sentence was approved by two of the three judges at Tel Aviv district court on Tuesday, which was presided over by Judge George Kara.

Katsav was convicted in December of rape, sexual harassment, indecent acts and obstruction of justice following a four-year scandal that shocked the Jewish state.

He had denied charges he twice raped an aide when he was a cabinet minister in the late 1990s, and molested or sexually harassed two other women who worked for him during his 2000-2007 term as president.

As Katsav arrived at the court, hundreds of journalists packed around the entrance to catch a glimpse of the disgraced president.

The prosecution had called for a lengthy jail term, highlighting the serious nature of the crimes, the damage inflicted on the victims and the shame he brought on the presidential office.

However, his lawyers asked that he be spared prison time, and urged the three judges to take into account the media campaign against him, his public humiliation and inability to rehabilitate his reputation with "the mark of Cain forever etched on his forehead."

The maximum sentence for rape is 16 years behind bars.

Huu ni mfano mzuri wa nchi ambayo the rule of law is held supreme, na kila mtu anashughulikiwa kwa makosa yake bila kujali status yake katika jamii - I wish we could get there some day as a nation
