    Inatosha: ‘Academy’ zinatumia Kiingereza kutuzuga

    Daily News; Tuesday,September 16, 2008 @15:55

Let's play our part effectively as parents or guardians and raise our children on the 21 era, and make sure we don't minimize their chances to shine.

While it is undisputable - at least to sane minds- that Swahili occupies a central position in the fabric of our nation, and rightly deserves not only the right attention but also respect as a formidable and organic language regardless of the historical element, it is equally undisputable that the world economy has no place for a non-world language speaker.

My fear is, in embracing English medium schools -half baked unregulated ones halfheartedly at that - we are posited in a lose-lose position. The pupils who take pride in their almost nonexistent, "overcontemporarized Spaghetti-Western" English find themselves in a predicament whichby on the one hand they cannot dream of ejaculating some world class Dickensian punditry like yours truly, on the other hand they don't even know who is Amiri Akida Andanenga "Sauti ya Kiza" and Agoro Anduru, let alone Shaaban Robert and "Adili na Nduguze" and I am not even talking about "Mabepari wa Venisi".

To quote their playbook, they don't got no game, not even a Playstation!

Time to wake up and instill some discipline, cultivate readership -in both Swahili and English- and cut back on that Multichoice torrent on the idiot box.
